What is Alternative Spring Break?
Alternative Spring Break will expose WSU students to complex social and cultural issues through community visits, direct service, group discussions, common readings. The 2027 Alternative Spring Break trip will take place in Denver, Colorado.
Alternative Spring Break Details
For the 2027 Alternative Spring Break will take place in Denver Colorado . Participants will depart Wichita State University on Sunday, March 14th and will travel back on Friday, March 19st. We will be volunteering with different organizations each day with volunteer work with organizations that serve issues related to food and hunger, youth and mentoring, environment and sustainability and animal welfare.
Cost: The cost of the trip is $150 per student. The cost includes transportation to Colorado, lodging, food, programming, and a final day/fun activity. Meals during travel to and from Kansas/Colorado are not covered by the trip. The full payment of $150 must be received by January 9th, 2027.
Participation: Trip participants are required to participate in a series of three meetings that will take place prior to the trip for 1 hour a week and one post trip seminar. If participants are unable to make the meetings they must meet individually with the Civic Engagement Coordinator to get the information that they have missed. The meetings will explore the issues related to the service projects through readings and discussions and will also provide logistical information about the trip and will give students an opportunity to get to know other trip participants.
Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on the ASB Trip Application and Reflection Statements and chosen anonymously by a selection committee of staff from Student Engagement & Belonging (SEB).
