Shocker Summer STEM camp

Cost: $200

In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Wichita State University's Corbin Connect is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® program to children entering second through fifth grade. This exciting, weeklong summer adventure provides opportunities for open-ended exploration of science, technology, engineering and more! Children rotate through a variety of hands-on activities each day while collaborating with friends to think creatively and invent their own solutions to real-world challenges. The camp week runs June 3-7 with two Wichita Public School teachers serving as STEM instructors, and the program lineup is the best yet, so whether your child is a new or returning camper, they are in for an amazing week full of new discoveries and a-ha moments!

Geoscience Advocacy Program

June 17-21 and June 24-28 • 9 a.m. to noon • WSU Geology

Cost: Free

This high school advocacy program offers students age 16 and beyond an immersive experience in research and advocacy, focusing on community disaster resilience and equitable solutions. It covers topics like Radar technology, Machine Learning, GIS, and community resilience, with an emphasis on natural disasters prediction, mitigation and social equity in community resilience. The program fosters multidisciplinary learning, professional development, and data analytics skills, preparing students for future studies and careers in Geoscience. Supported by the Kansas NSF EPSCoR First Award Grant through ARISE, it offers mentorship from Wichita State University faculty from six colleges and is ideal for students interested in Geoscience. Participants receive a $500 stipend for the two-week program.

Geoscience Advocacy Program summer camp

Herencia

July 7-12 • 12:30 to 6 p.m. • Shocker Hall

Cost: Free; includes five college credit hours, all meals, exposure to college by living on campus for five days

Herencia is a summer bridge program open to all students, however geared towards native / heritage Spanish-speaking high school students. This experience is intentional in preparing high school senior students for college through an abundance of cultural immersion, language enhancement, college credit opportunities, and pathways to success for college.

Cost: Free; includes lunch and any materials students will need for activities

This day camp for high school juniors and seniors will feature activity-centered sessions led by members of the Philosophy Department. Students who attend will enhance their reasoning skills, discover how philosophical ideas can help us solve problems in the real world, become aware of how studying philosophy can improve career prospects, and become better prepared for college.

Topics include:

  • Living Wiser Lives: Virtue, Relationships, and Identity with Prof. Castro and Prof. Lu.
  • Rational Imagination: Thought Experiments, Logic Puzzles, and Good Reasoning with Prof. Bondy
  • Social Justice: Children's Rights, Animal Rights, and Philosophy of Law with Prof. Sterrett
  • Leveling Up and Human Enhancement: What Player Progression Tells us About Our Future with Prof. Johnson-Schwartz
  • Philosophy of Humor: Art, Fun, and the Meanings of Life with Prof. Castro
  • Philosophy of AI with Prof. Sterret
  • Philosophy at Work: Synthesis and Reflection with Prof. Hepburn

Young Entrepreneurs

Cost: $60; includes light breakfast, snacks, final day reception.

Discover an exciting opportunity for high schoolers aged 14-19 to unleash their entrepreneurial spirit at the Barton School of Business Young Entrepreneurs Summer Camp. Tailored for students in grades 9-12, this immersive experience is designed to empower young minds eager to turn their ideas into successful ventures. Led by experienced faculty and visionary entrepreneurs, students will learn essential skills in creative ideation, design thinking, business modeling, and financial planning. Through interactive workshops and engaging discussions, students will gain invaluable insights and skills essential for navigating the dynamic world of entrepreneurship. This four-day morning camp for Young Entrepreneurs will culminate with a pitch competition and networking reception in the award-winning Woolsey Hall on the Wichita State Campus.
