Join the GiveCampus campaign in support of the Ulrich Museum

GiveCampus campaign for Ulrich

The Ulrich Museum needs your support. The GiveCampus campaign has a goal of raising $6,000 for the bus reimbursement program and is open until Saturday Aug. 31 for donations.

The program brings students to the Ulrich Museum each year from all over the Wichita and surrounding areas. Many of these students likely would not have an opportunity to visit an art museum otherwise. Please help reach the goal and support a worthy cause.

Announcing New Leader Orientation at WSU

New Leader Orientation

Human Resources has launched New Leader Orientation (NLO) at Wichita State University. Similar to New Employee Orientation, which began in January 2017, this program is designed to orient new leaders (individuals with direct reports) to the university. The program covers what new leaders need to know about WSU in order to successfully lead people here.

New leaders will learn about tools and resources available to them and how to access them. This program is designed to introduce them to high impact areas within the University and learn about what is going on. Additionally, they will network with other new leaders and have opportunities to discuss similar questions or issues.

NLO is conducted in cohort style over a three-month period, and is constructed in module format. The orientation is comprised of 28 hours of in-class instruction (one full day and five ½ days). All new leaders will receive an Outlook invitation during the first few months in their new role with a full agenda and detailed information. Managers of new leaders will also receive communication if they have a direct report that will be attending NLO.

What about existing leaders at WSU? In order to ensure all existing leaders have the opportunity for comparable training, they will have the option to register in myTraining for open training courses featured in NLO.

The myTraining courses are open to all current WSU employees (faculty and staff) and are scheduled to occur throughout the year. The myTraining link is available through the faculty/staff tab in myWSU. For more information, go to wichita.edu/NLO.

Coming to an arena near you

Brad Pittman feature

In March, Mike Ross sat on the baseline at Tulsa's BOK Center and watched NCAA Tournament men's basketball. Brad Pittman watched on TV from his home.

The calls and texts sailed back and forth, not about dunks and buzzer-beaters. The games are secondary to their scrutiny. Why is that water-cooler placed in a potentially dangerous path? Should someone sweep the court more often?

They are planning for March 2021 when the tournament returns to Intrust Bank Arena.

In those type of details, a successful tournament exists.

Pittman, who serves as tournament director when NCAA basketball comes to Wichita, is Wichita State's chief planner, greeter and salesman for connecting to those type of events. Two successful bids for NCAA men's basketball and two for the women highlight those efforts for Pittman, recently promoted to senior associate athletic director for facilities and operations, and the university.

Order by Aug. 1 to add a brick to the Shocker Alumni Walkway

Preserve your Wichita State legacy – or a loved one’s – with an inscribed brick paver on the Shocker Alumni Walkway. Located between the Marcus Welcome Center and Woodman Alumni Center and leading south into the heart of WSU’s Innovation Campus, the walkway is a lasting landmark in the ever-changing campus landscape. The program generates revenue for the WSU Alumni Association's work in support of higher education. A portion of walkway brick sales goes into the WSUAA’s operational budget. The order deadline is Thursday, Aug. 1 to be included in this year’s annual installment.

For more about the Shocker Alumni Walkway, visit the WSUAA’s YouTube and its Shocker Alumni Walkway playlist videos above and here.

Details about ordering are available at ShockerAlumni.org/ShockerAlumni Walkway, or contact Stacy Shanahan at the WSUAA at 978-3826 or stacy.shanahan@wichita.edu.
