Tierney Mount serves as the Licensure Officer and makes licensure recommendations to the state once a candidate completes the program.

*note effective September 12th the PLT is no longer required for licensure in the state of Kansas.

Coursework within the teacher education  program prepares a student for the PRAXIS licensure exams required by the State of Kansas for application for a teacher license or endorsement.  Completion of the PRAXIS licensure exams with a passing score is required by the State of Kansas for a candidate applying for teacher license and/or endorsement. The following material elaborates briefly on the levels of licensure available. Please recognize that this is only to be used as a guide and may change depending on changing state requirements. Please contact your academic advisor if you have any questions regarding any of the issues addressed below.

**NOTE:

Veteran educators will need to take the following tests with the corresponding passing scores by July 2028 if they do not take the board-approved structured literacy training: 

  • ETS’ Elementary Educators Teaching Reading sub-test (7002); passing score = 143. 
  • Pearson’s Foundations of Reading (190); passing score = 240. 
  • Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction; passing score = 500.

Required Educational and/or Licensure Tests

  1. Praxis Content Test: Students must take a content exam for each endorsement area in which they are seeking to earn licensure. This includes teaching endorsement, school specialist and school leadership licenses. This test is required by the Kansas State Department of Education. This test is not required for graduation, but it is a requirement for licensure.

Disclosure Statement

Section 207 of Title II of the Higher Education Act (HEA) mandates that the Department of Educationcollect certain data on the performance of teacher preparation programs to prepare an annual report to Congress. Section 207 (f)(1) requires that institutions enrolling students who receive federal assistance who have a teacher preparation program must under the HEA report certain information to the general public. Section 207 (f)(2) requires this information be included with any material routinely sent to potential applicants, high school guidance counselors, and prospective employers. This information is likewise to be made available to the general public upon request.
