Departmental Honors in

Exercise Science

Undergraduate students working toward a degree in exercise science have the opportunity to receive honors recognition through their major. Honors students will engage in an enriched scholarship and research experience designed to complement the degree major. Students who meet the admissions requirements are encouraged to apply. Students who are not exercise science majors but are involved in the Cohen Honors College, please contact the Human Performance Studies (HPS) department for permission to enroll in an exercise science honors course, as appropriate.

Departmental Honors Program Requirements

Students admitted to the HPS Exercise Science honors track must complete the following:

1. Maintain a minimum 3.500 cumulative GPA for HPS coursework;

2. Enroll in and complete the honors assignments with a minimum of 12 credit hours of HPS Honors coursework, in addition to 3 credit hours of HPS 595H - Human Performance Research Honors for a total of 15 credit hours of HPS Honors course work.

Students who have previously taken a course from the above list without honors

credit can contact their advisor to discuss an honors contract to earn honors credit.


HPS 595H Human Performance Research Honors 3 credit hours*

Complete and present a mentored scholarly activity during the last year of the

program through HPS 595H.

4. Actively participate in facilitated meetings with other HPS honors students;

5. Be a participating member of the WSU Exercise Science Student Organization (ESSO);

6. Maintain a portfolio of assignments, activities, and reflections throughout the honors track to display at the HPSeries Showcase.
