Public Finance
The Graduate Certificate in Public Finance offers advanced study in a core of related graduate level courses in public finance drawn from the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree program. These courses are designed to enhance each student's ability to think critically about the social, economic and political contexts of public finance problems. Those completing the program will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Public Finance and completion will be recognized on the student's official university transcript.
Who Should Enroll?
- Public finance who hold undergraduate degrees and who want to improve their skills and knowledge.
- MPA students seeking to specialize in public finance.
- Students in other graduate degree programs seeking advanced study in public finance.
What are the program requirements?
The certificate requires the completion of four graduate courses in public finance and their course prerequisites:
Complete each of the following required courses:
PAdm 765: Public Sector EconomicsPAdm 865: State and Local Government Finance
PAdm 866: Public Financial Management
PAdm 867: State and Local Governmental Budgeting
Students in the certificate program must earn a grade of "B" or better in all certificate courses. No transfer credit will be accepted for the Graduate Certificate in City and County Management. Certificate courses must be completed within six years or less. Classes normally take place after 5 p.m. on weekdays.
What must I do to be admitted?
Admission to the Graduate School is required either through a degree program or through
Nondegree, Category A status. Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally
accredited university and a grade point average of at least 3.00 in the last 60 credit
hours of work, including any graduate work. Applicants who are currently enrolled
in a graduate degree program at Wichita State University and desire to complete the
Graduate Certificate are required to file a separate plan of study with the Hugo Wall
School for the certificate program.
Applicants who speak English as a second language must have a score of 600 or more
on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and a score of 50 or more on
the Test of Spoken English (TSE) or the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit
(SPEAK) test.
