2016 Gender & Sexuality in Kansas Conference
Friday, March 4th 2016
Wichita State University
Each year, the Wichita State Sociology Department works with several co-sponsors to host a conference showcasing the gender and sexuality related scholarship happening across our state. We invite submissions of original research and scholarship in any discipline from colleges and universities in Kansas. Our primary goals are to create connections and dialogue among gender and sexuality scholars across the state and to provide students an opportunity to gain experience presenting research.
We are pleased to announce that our keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Lisa Wade, an author, blogger, and a professor of sociology at Occidental College. Dr. Wade is the co-author of Gender: Ideas, Interactions, Institutions and the founder and principal writer for the popular website, Sociological Images (thesocietypages.org/socimages). She will lead a workshop on online feminist pedagogy and give a talk on hookup culture on college campuses.
We hope you can join us!
Please join us on Friday, March 4th at the Marcus Welcome Center at Wichita State
University
(map and driving directions here). Sessions begin at 8:45am and will run until 5:00pm. Please arrive by 8:30am to
check in and to get your badge and program. Dr. Lisa Wade’s workshop on feminist pedagogy
will run from 1-2pm, and her keynote presentation titled, “Sex, Rapture and Resistance:
What Students Really Think about Hooking Up” begins at 6:30pm in Hubbard Hall 209.
