What Is an Internship?

An internship is a supervised learning experience that complements and enhances your academic program in the College of Fine Arts. It provides the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real‑world professional environment, building practical skills and exploring career paths within your field.

This course does not meet in person, but students may be required to complete additional academic assignments beyond the hours worked at the internship site. Any additional requirements will be outlined in the course syllabus.

Internships may be repeated for academic credit, allowing students to continue developing professional experience across multiple semesters.

Prerequisite: Instructor’s consent is required before enrolling.

Internship Approval Process

All internships in the College of Fine Arts require instructor permission before a student can enroll. To begin the approval process, students must complete the Internship Request Form below.

Once submitted, your academic advisor will review the request to confirm that the internship credit can be applied toward your degree progress. After this review, the submission will be forwarded to the faculty member who oversees internships for your program.

The faculty member will then review your internship details and will either:

Approve the internship, or
Request additional information to ensure the experience meets course and program requirements.

Enrollment in the internship course will not be cleared until:

You have finalized your internship placement, and
The supervising faculty member has formally approved your internship plans.

Internship Credit Hour Expectations

Internship credit hours are based on the number of hours you work at your internship site over the course of 15‑weeks. The number of weekly hours you commit to will determine how many credit hours you may enroll in:

1 credit hour: Minimum 3 hours per week (45 hours total)
2 credit hours: Minimum 6 hours per week (90 hours total)
3 credit hours: Minimum 9 hours per week (135 hours total)

Timeline Expectations

Advising staff review submitted internship forms and forward them to the appropriate faculty member within one week of submission. Faculty approvals are processed and recorded by advising on a weekly basis.

Overall processing times may vary depending on how long it takes the faculty member to review the information and provide approval to advising.

Once the approval has been entered, the student will receive an email from their academic advisor notifying them that they are eligible to enroll.
