What is Major for a Day?

This day is designed to give you an opportunity to experience life as a WSU student in the School of Performing Arts. The day may include:

  • An informational session
  • A chance to meet the faculty, staff, & professionals in the School of Performing Arts, Advising, & Financial Aid
  • Lunch ($20 registration fee covers the cost of a student lunch)
  • An opportunity to attend a class of your choice in Acting, Dance, Design & Technical Theatre, or Musical Theatre 
  • Performing Arts and campus tour (available by request)
  • Wrap-up to ask your questions
  • A comp ticket to one School of Performing Arts production

Here's what you need to know if you're attending

Location

Rhatigan Student Center, Wichita State University main campus, Wichita, KS 67260

Parking

Attire

Please wear clothing that’s comfortable, easy to move in, & no flip-flops. 

Lunch

Your $20 registration fee pays for lunch.

Overview of School and Opportunities
10:30 am

Students attend a class with current students that gives a greater understanding of performing arts 

Parents/guests attend presentations from Admissions, Financial Aid, & Advising
11:45 am Lunch
1-2:30 pm

All students will attend a class in the area of interest (Acting, Dance, Design & Technical Theatre, or Musical Theatre) 

  • Dance: Company Class - Contemporary Technique
    • Friday Dance Major Technique Class taught by rotating faculty and guest artists
    • Dancers should wear leotards/tights/leggings, and a fitted top. No shorts. No flip-flops (bare feet can be an option)
  • Design & Technical Theater: Behind the Scenes Tour 
    • A walking tour of all the design & technical spaces
    • Discussion about all the applied learning opportunities
  • Musical Theatre: Telling the Story: Musical Theatre Song Coaching
    •  Students should prepare a 32-bar song. (This can be one of the songs you are using to audition if you've signed up for that)
    • Bring sheet music double sided in a 3-ring binder
    • An accompanist will be provided

3:00 pm Campus Tours from Wilner (option A)
4:00 pm Campus Tours from Heskett (option B)
