Mama Bushwick is Dead by Elizabeth Shannon


Date: October 5th - 7th @ 7:30 PM

Student Director: Lynnaya McClure

Description: Five estranged siblings, Bard, Joyce, Robin, Scott, and Jo, return to their recently deceased mother’s home. They mst prepare for her funeral, clean her duplex, and decide who will give her eulogy. Filled with grief, trauma, childhood memories, and dolls, “Mama Bushwick is Dead,” explores the complex family dynamics present regardless of place and time.

A Chorus Line


Date: November 2nd - 4th @ 7:30 PM / November 5th @ 2:00 PM

Director: Amy Baker Schwiethale

Description: A Chorus Line examines one day in the lives of seventeen dancers, all vying for a spot in the “chorus line” of a Broadway musical. After the first round of cuts, Zach, the director and choreographer, asks each dancer to speak about themselves. Discomfort opens into revelation, confession leads to redemption, and within the bright, outwardly homogenous chorus, the audience begins to see each dancer’s individuality.

Description: A weekend celebration of senior capstone projects by students in dance, design & technical theatre, musical theatre, and theatre.

Saturday, December 2nd includes presentations by BA Dance, BFA Design & Technical Theatre, & BA Theatre students as well as BFA Musical Theatre students. 

Sunday, December 3rd includes performances by BFA Dance and BFA Theatre Performance students.

Description: An evening of new choreographic works created, produced, and danced by students.

Peter and the Starcatcher


Date: February 29th - March 2nd @ 7:30 PM / March 3rd @ 2:00 PM

Director: Sheldon Mba

Description: A young orphan and their mates are sent from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the tyrant King Zarboff. Unbeknownst to them, the captain's cabin holds an enigmatic trunk containing otherworldly and valuable cargo. Along their voyage, they meet the bright and astute Molly, who is training to become a Starcatcher. They quickly discover that the trunk's precious contents are starstuff, a powerful celestial substance that must never fall into the wrong hands. Their adventure takes a dangerous turn when the ship is taken over by pirates, led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain set on claiming the trunk and its riches for themselves. The group must work together to protect the starstuff from falling into the wrong hands as they navigate through treacherous waters and face perilous obstacles.

Smokefall


Date: March 28th - 30th

Time: 7:30 P.M.

Presented by: Empty Space Theatre (Faculty Mentor: Ed Baker)

Description: Magical realism collides with manic vaudeville in a family drama unlike any you've ever seen. Fetuses swap philosophy while awaiting their birth, a daughter eats dirt and doesn't speak, a father is about to drive away and never return, and there's an apple tree growing through the wall of the house. Whipping from astonishing tenderness to profound humor and back again, 'SMOKEFALL' explores the lives of a family in a lyrical treatise on the fragility of life and the power of love.

The Trail to Oregon!


Date: April 18th - 20th

Presented by: Wichita State Musical Theatre Company (Faculty Mentor: Emily Orr)

Description: The Trail to Oregon! is an interactive musical parody of the video game, "The Oregon Trail."  Originated by Team Starkid, the show follows one family's journey to migrate to Oregon after their farm burns down. Faced with wild animals, The Bandit King, and an overlying threat of death from "the watchers", will the family make it to Oregon in one piece?

Description: Two people are secretly romantically interested in one another. They agree to share Christmas dinner together, just as friends, because a family holiday isn’t going to happen and all of their other friends are already busy.
