Pediatric Feeding Group
Pediatric Feeding Groups are for preschool and school-aged children who are picky eaters and problem feeders. We use play-based and evidenced-based approaches to address the feeding needs of your child. The feeding group is led by a licensed speech-language pathologist, as well as speech pathology graduate students at Wichita State University. Our licensed speech-language pathologists have extensive training in a wide variety of feeding-based therapy techniques and are certified in the Sequential Oral Sensory Feeding Approach.
This group is beneficial for children who have one or more of the following characteristics:
- Specific food aversions
- Difficulty transitioning to new food textures (i.e. purees to solids)
- Difficulty trying new foods
- Difficulty gaining weight or maintaining nutrition/hydration on current diet
- Difficulty transitioning to oral eating (G-tube dependent)
Feeding therapy groups are formed based on age and feeding abilities. Peer models may be used during group sessions. Each child will receive an individualized treatment plan, including an at-home program for carryover during and once the program has ended. The sessions last about an hour; Feeding Group is approximately 45 minutes, and we allow 15 minutes for parent education at the end of each group session. Group sessions encourage increased social interaction between children and their peers, and will allow for a safe, structured environment to experience food!
