Wichita State announces eight new Koch scholars

The Wichita State Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College is proud to announce eight recipients of the Koch Scholars program for the fall 2020 semester. Each of the students will receive between $30,000 and $45,000 during their four-year attendance at WSU.

Honors College virtual open house via Facebook Live

In an effort to continue engaging with prospective Honors students in a virtual environment, last week we hosted a virtual Open House with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Current Honors Students Brandon Eckerman, Ivan Castillo, Lucas Webb and Jay Thompson showed viewers around the Honors College, shared their experiences and answered questions. Students from around the country tuned in, including Texas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Alaska, to learn more about the Honors College.

Letter from honors academic advisor - registration and more

Registration begins at 7:00 am on Monday, April 6^th!

Reminder: Engineering, Fine Arts and Undecided students have mandatory advising and you will not be able to register if you haven’t met with your College Advisor! All advisors are still meeting with students, in remote settings.

Honors has purchased a small number of Chromebooks for students without computers, to be returned at the end of the semester. To obtain one, please Honors@wichita.edu

Phenomenal Women Awards 2020

The annual Phenomenal Women Awards recognizes women for their accomplishments and contributions to our community through their scholarship, activism, and commitment to excellence. While we cannot celebrate in person, we hope that each nominee and award recipient knows how important they are to the campus and community.

CMD Virtual Career Fair for Kansas Social Workers

Students in the Social Work program are invited to participate in the CMD Virtual Career Fair for Kansas Social Workers, taking place online from Monday, April 6th through Thursday, April 9th. Students currently enrolled in educational programs within the state should pre-register. This digital recruiting event brings together healthcare systems, practice groups, governmental agencies, and hospitals seeking Social Workers for immediate hire across Kansas. On April 6th, students who have pre-registered will receive an invitation link to enter the virtual fair and will be able to review in-state job opportunities from the convenience of their phones, laptops, or tablets until the end of the day on Thursday, April 9th.

Congratulations to the first Battin-Lester Research Award Winners

Congratulations to Courtney Minor and Odalis Vicencio, inaugural Battin-Lester Research Fellows. The awards, which carry a $1,900 stipend, will enable research on corporate responsibility in Wichita, and campus presentation of that research during Constitution Day in fall 2020.

Thanks to Dr. Susan Castro (Philosophy) who has agreed to serve as Courtney's mentor, and Eryn Ebach and Neal Allen (Political Science) who will serve as Odalis's mentors.

Opportunity - take a survey assessing self-advocating abilities of WSU students

Help graduate student Mercedes Lubbers research self-advocating abilities of WSU students. There are two questionnaires involved in the survey called the College Student Mentoring Survey (CSMS), which asks questions related to mentoring experiences at WSU and the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), which examines self-decision making. The questionnaires will take between 20-35 minutes. There is also a follow-up for advocacy scenarios within the survey that takes between 5-10 minutes and will consist of problem-based scenarios where participants are asked to create a solution to the problem.
