Eligible Noncitizen Status
Financial Aid Eligibility
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was unable to verify your status as an Eligible Noncitizen for financial aid.
The following documentation must be provided to the Office of Financial Aid to verify your eligibility. Documents must not be expired:
- A legible copy of your original citizenship/immigration document
- A legible copy of your government-issued photo ID (like a driver's license or state ID)
- A signed affidavit (use the correct link below)
Eligible Noncitizen Statuses
- Lawful permanent residents
- Conditional resident aliens
- Refugees
- Asylees
- Persons paroled into the U.S. for at least one year
- Cuban-Haitian Entrants
- Victims of human trafficking (VTVPA)
- Battered immigrants-qualified aliens (VAWA) with established prima facie or approved case
- Persons born in Canada with at least 50% Native American blood (Jay Treaty)
- Citizens of the Freely Associated States (Federated States of Micronesia, Republics of Palau, Marshall Islands)
Acceptable Documentation
Some types of acceptable documentation include the following (and there may be others):
- Lawful Permanent Resident Card or Resident Alien Card (Green Card)
- I-94 or I-94A:
- Processed for I-551, temporary evidence of permanent residence
- Class of admission is “RE” and admit until date is “DS” (refugees)
- 209a (or 209b) pending (refugees)
- Admission under Section 208 of the INA (asylees)
- MRIV in passport serving as temporary evidence of permanent residence
- U.S. Travel Document containing Reentry Permit (I-327) and Refugee Travel Document (I-571)
- I-797 Notice of Action:
- Approved for Permanent Residence (not application for permanent resident status)
- Applying for permanent residence or adjusted status; must also have documentation of being paroled into the US for at least one year (parolees)
- Approval of petition or establishment of prima facie case under Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
- Refugee travel letter with admission under Section 207 of the INA
- Certification or eligibility letter from HHS for victims of human trafficking under VTVPA, or T-visa for family members
- Documentation of Cuban-Haitian entrant
- Documentation of citizenship of the Freely Associated States (Federated States of Micronesia, republics of Palau, Marshall Islands)
