Starting college means learning many new things, including the acronyms you'll hear around campus. Here’s a guide to some of the most common acronyms used at Wichita State University to help you get familiar with Shocker lingo.

Buildings

RSC – Rhatigan Student Center

The social hub of student life at Wichita State, providing a place to study, hang out with friends, grab a bite to eat, shop, and more.

JBC – John Bardo Center

Located on the Innovation Campus, this building houses over 20 engineering lab spaces and GoCreate.

Academic Colleges

CAS – College of Applied Studies

This college includes majors such as education, counseling, athletic training, and sport management.

CHP – College of Health Professions

Home to programs like dental hygiene, nursing, communication sciences and disorders, and physician associate.

LAS – Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

The largest academic college at WSU, offering degrees in biology, communications, criminal justice, psychology, and more.

CARE Team

Provides a proactive and supportive approach to prevention, assessment, and intervention for situations affecting students or employees.

SCA – Shocker Career Accelerator

WSU’s career development center offering career coaching, events, professional development, and tools.

ROTC – Reserve Officer Training Corps

Develops leadership and management skills while you earn a college education.

WSUPD (or UPD) – Wichita State University Police Department

A commissioned law enforcement agency on campus.

SEB - Student Engagement & Belonging

Aims to connect every student with opportunities to enhance their Shocker experience.

Student Organizations

SAS – Student Ambassador Society

Works alongside the Office of Admissions to recruit new students to the university.

SGA – Student Government Association

Assists in resolving intra-campus conflicts, promoting fair treatment, and fostering community well-being.

SAC – Student Activities Council

The programming board for Wichita State University.

FSL – Fraternity and Sorority Life

Comprises 26 social, Greek-letter organizations with diverse backgrounds, values, and missions.

IFC - Interfraternity Council

Governs the seven IFC fraternities at Wichita State.

CGC - Cultural Greek Council

Governs the six culturally-based social fraternities and sororities at Wichita State.

NPHC - National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated

Governs nine historically African American Greek letter organizations.

PC - Panhellenic Council

Governs the National Panhellenic Conference Sororities.
