Scholarships Awarded through DSI

The Distinguished Scholarship Invitational (DSI) is one of the area's most prominent scholarship competitions, awarding some of the largest annual undergraduate scholarships in Kansas, including:

  • one $80,000 Richard D. Smith Scholarship (All majors)
  • three $64,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships (All majors)
  • one $40,000 Mike & Mary James Scholarship (Fine Arts or Liberal Arts & Sciences majors)
  • one Mark & Stacy Parkinson Scholarship up to $34,000 (Geared toward first-generation students)
  • at least 10 Passage 2 Success Scholarships $8,000 - $20,000 (Geared toward first-generation students)
  • multiple DSI Semifinalist Scholarships $4,000 (Awarded to students named semifinalists in DSI)

When is DSI?

DSI will be held on campus on Saturday, Nov. 21. Students must be present to participate. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Admissions at 316-978-3085 or email us at dsi@wichita.edu.

To be eligible to compete, you must:

  1. Be a 2027 high school graduate
  2. Submit Wichita State admission application materials by Nov. 1
  3. Submit scholarship materials by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 8
  4. Meet one of the following criteria:
    • Have a minimum unweighted 3.5 GPA, or
    • Have a minimum ACT composite score of 27, or
    • Have a minimum SAT composite of 1260, or
    • Rank in the top 10 percent of your class at the end of your junior year
  5. See below for additional eligibility criteria for certain awards.

Additional eligibility criteria

  • Mike & Mary James Scholarship
    • Declare a major within the College of Fine Arts or the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
  • Mark & Stacy Parkinson Scholarship
    • Graduate from a Kansas high school.
  • Passage 2 Success Scholarships
    • Meet the Wichita State priority date of April 1 for submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you're ineligible to complete the FAFSA, we'll contact you to provide a separate statement describing your financial need.
    • Recipients are required to participate in the Passage 2 Success Program.
