Race and Regatta Results 2014-2015

Results will be posted within five days of the race.

October 4-5, 2014 - Head of the Oklahoma
This is typically the kickoff to our fall racing. The Head of the Oklahoma is a large scale event with many activities adding to the total experience of racing.

Our novice men kept up the tradition of bringing home the gold in their event, the Men’s Novice 8+, for the eighth year in a row. The novice women had a strong showing with silver in the 4+. They then followed it with a strong fourth and eighth place finish in the 8+ event. Both the varsity men and women raced hard against some of the top crews in the country, which included USA national team training center crews.

The highlight of these races was a bronze in the Men’s Varsity 4+ Night Sprints. Overall, we are proud of both how our crews competed and conducted themselves as they represented WSU.

October 18, 2014 - Head Race: Jayhawk Jamboree
Shocker Rowing had a good day at the second Jayhawk Jamboree.
The men’s novice took first in both the 4+ & 8+. The varsity men also recorded a top finish with first in the 2x. The varsity men’s 8+ lost a close one to KU, finishing just 4 seconds back over the 4,000 meters.
On the women’s side they faced many strong NCAA teams, including Iowa, Drake, Tulsa and Big 12 schools of Kansas and Kansas State. The novice women finished 5th of the 14 entries. The highlight of the event was placing ahead of both Drake and Tulsa “A” crews. They also finished 5th in the 4+. This was also the second time to face KSU and while they once again finished behind their “A”, the Shockers closed the margin by 40%.
It was also an exciting day against our only Missouri Valley rival, Drake U. Not only is Drake the only other MVC rowing program, they are a NCAA program. This made it even more exciting as the Shockers swept them in all four events head to head. Last year Drake finished ahead in both varsity events.
“I am very proud of our team performed and it was encouraging to see the improvements the novices have made since the Head of the Oklahoma,” Head Coach Calvin Cupp.
This proved to be a valuable experience for the Shockers and will be helpful as they prepare for their home race, the Wichita Frostbite.
