Overview
Andrew Schlapp joined Wichita State University in 2008 as the Director of Government Relations, in 2018 he was promoted to the Chief of Staff. Schlapp uses his leadership skills in developing strategies to fulfill the University’s mission statement, implementing initiatives across university divisions, collaboratively working with community leaders, businesses and stakeholders for the betterment of the region. In 2020 he was promoted to his current position as the Executive Director of Government Relations & Strategy, he also serves as Director of NIAR Business Development, Executive Director of the WSU Board of Trustees and Wichita State Innovation Alliance and Operations.
Schlapp graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's in business administration and received a master's in public administration from Wichita State University.
Mr. Schlapp is currently a member of the Governor's military council and on the executive board of the Sedgwick County developmental disability organization.
Andy and his wife, Jane, have three children.

In 1963, Senate Bill 152 would establish a local Board of Trustees to manage the University's endowment and the one and one-half mill levy and with the purpose of supporting the educational undertakings of Wichita State University. The bill passed. This is the same year that the Municipal University of Wichita came into the state system and became Wichita State University.
The Office of Government Relations also holds the charge of overseeing and implementing legislative and regulatory relationships with the Congress, State Legislature, City Council and County Commission, and governmental offices and agencies at all levels.
The WSIA Board is a nonprofit organization that serves as the governing entity for Wichita State University's Innovation Campus.
