Device Lifecycle
Beginning of life
WSU ITS will receive the new device and catalogue it before it is set up for department use.
During life
Departments are responsible for the following during the life of the device:
- Completing annual inventory list
- Notifying WSU ITS if the device is assigned to a different end user
- Notifying WSU ITS if the device is moved to another location
WSU ITS is responsible for ensuring that the device remains in compliance with IT security guidelines as set forth in the State Legislative Audit, including but not limited to operating system and antivirus updates.
- Recommend device lifecycle is 5 years:
- 3 years under the vendor's warranty and 2 years without the warranty.
- Apple Care is NOT recommended for WSU-managed Apple Computers.
End of life
At the end of device lifecycle, the following steps are taken:
- Department completes the Property Disposal Form.
- Department ensures devices such as tablets and smartphones have all accounts and passwords removed.
- Department informs WSU ITS or their designated departmental IT technician for disposal of data and information.
- WSU ITS or designated departmental IT technician will dispose of the data and sign the property transfer sheet.
- Department is required to follow the Guidelines for Transfer and Disposal of Property to finalize the equipment transfer to the Warehouse.
