ITS Retirement FAQs
List of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding what you need to know from Information
Technology Services (ITS) when you retire.
As of May 2023, new Retirees are not eligible for an Office 365 license.
Previous Retirees who have not used or logged into Office 365 for more than 18 months are not eligible fore reactivation of Office 365.
Prior to leaving WSU, please return all WSU provided technology devices to your supervisor per departmental policy.
Contact your supervisor for details.
All contents from the @wichita.edu email address will be disabled when the employee retires and/or leaves Wichita State.
If the retiring employee will need a WSU affiliated email address, they need contact the Help Desk to request to be transitioned to an @shockers.wichita.edu email address at retirement.
As per WSU policy, ITS will not be able to transfer contents (including saved emails, contacts, notes, and calendar events) from @wichita.edu to @shockers.wichita.edu mail accounts.
Reminder: Once your @wichita.edu email account is disabled, the @wichita.edu email account (including emails, contacts, notes, and calendars associated with that email account) will be disabled on all your devices including mobile devices such as cell phones.

If you are the owner of a Team in Microsoft Teams, you will need to transfer that ownership to another WSU employee prior to retirement.

If your WSU email address (@wichita.edu) is the only email account that you have, a personal email account may be required for your mobile devices.
One option would be to create a Gmail account. Click here for instructions on How to Create Gmail Account.
If your WSU email address (@wichita.edu) is listed as your Apple ID on your Apple devices, you will need to change it to a person email account.
An Apple ID is the account you use to access Apple services like iCloud, the App Store, the iTunes Store, Apple Music, and more. It includes the email address and password that you use to sign in, and all the contact, payment, and security details that you'll use across Apple services.

If you come back to WSU, you will be issued and @wichita.edu address. Emails that go to your @shockers.wichita.edu will be sent to your @wichita.edu address as so you will not loose messages. When you leave your role, your mailbox will be empty and your @shockers.wichita.edu address will still continue to function.
No, ITS cannot provide you the extended time for availability of @wichita.edu account.
