Welcome to the May, 2022 ARC!
The May, 2022 ARC will take place May 23-26. Most events will be online with a blend of synchronous and asynchronous content. Call for Proposals is closed for May but if you are interested in presenting at the Aug ARC, please fill out this session proposal.
Except for LinkedIn Learning courses, all ARC events are free for anyone in the higher education community to attend. We invite all interested parties to our events! As always, anyone associated with Wichita State as a student, instructor of any rank, or as staff can also take advantage of the LinkedIn Learning opportunities. If you are associated with Wichita State but have not yet claimed your LinkedIn Learning license, please do so by following the instructions online.
New This Year! We are hosting a "scavenger hunt" for the May ARC. All you have to do to participate is download this scavenger hunt form, fill it out, and send the finished version along with your campus box number (or home address if you don't come to campus) to the Office of Instructional Resources at OIR@wichita.edu. We will send you a prize! All submissions must get to us by midnight, May 27, 2022. Thank you goes out to Blackboard/Anthology for sponsoring our scavenger hunt and providing prizes.

9:00-9:50: Inclusive Teaching, session recording, Alicia Sanchez. This session covers inclusive teaching techniques that all instructors
can use in their classes, whether the courses are online, hybrid, or in-person. It
will also cover inclusive teaching resources available to all instructors.

10:00-10:50: Making Video: Advantages of Panopto, YouTube, Zoom (plus a little training!): Session
Recording, John Hammer. Have you ever wondered why some people choose Panopto or YouTube or
prefer YouTube over uploading videos directly to Blackboard? This session will cover
the basics of video hosting services and help provide the information you need to
make an informed choice for your course, organization, website, or other use.
11:00-11:50: GRA? GTA? GA? What's the Difference?: Session Recording, Denise Gimlin. Many offices and departments hire graduate students, yet many offices
also have trouble navigating the many categories of graduate student employment. Do
you need a GTA? Maybe you need a GA? If you are not sure what all these categories
mean at WSU, this is the session for you.
Noon-12:50: Panel Hour: Student Panel, Session Recording Carolyn Shaw (Moderator). Noon is our "panel hour," and we are starting off with a bang! This panel will have WSU students talking to Carolyn Shaw about what helped, what hurt, and what didn't matter so much from last semester. This is always a very popular panel discussion and you won't want to miss it.

1:00-1:50: Get to Know Your Online Instruction Manual, Session Recording Freh Wuhib. Instructional Resources has an online instruction manual that is organized
both by "task" (think, "how do I post final grades to Banner?") and by instructor
level (eg: GTA, adjunct, full-time). This is an excellent resource, but only if you
know about it. This session will give you a walkthrough and an opportunity to impact
what we cover in it.
2:00-2:50: Mental Health in the Workplace, Jessica Provines. Are you interested in promoting
student mental health on campus? This is the session for you. This session was canceled and will be re-scheduled for the August ARC
3:00-3:50: Increase Student Interaction with Panopto, Session Recording, Kathryn Kelly (Panopto Representative). Wichita State is hosting Panopto trainers
for this interactive and informative session about some little-known (and under-utilized)
features of the Panopto video capture and hosting service. Come to learn about quizzing
in Panopto, captions, and more.

Is your department thinking of putting a full program online in the Ultra Course Format? If so, it's a great opportunity to standardize and immprove course quality too. 6:00-6:50: Do I Want to Teach in Ultra Course Format? How to Decide, Session Recording, Carolyn Speer. So, you've heard about the Ultra Course Format. Some people love
it, others do not. How do you decide if you should move your course "to Ultra"? This
session will give you the information and the tools you need to make an informed decision.

9:00-9:50: Accessibility Training for Instructors, Session Recording for AY 2021-22, John Jones. Each year, WSU instructors must complete mandatory accessibility
training. This is an opportunity to get that training for the academic year ending
this May, so if you haven't gotten it yet, now's the time. This session covers the
exceptions process.
10:00-10:50: Gimme Some Space! (Cloud storage options at WSU): Session Recording, Ali Levine. Having a reliable backup version of your work is very important, and
"the cloud" is great for that. But ... um ... what is the cloud exactly? And how do
we use it? If you are not sure, this session is for you. WSU provides a lot of cloud
storage, and it's waiting for you to learn how to use it!
11:00-11:50: Myths About Teaching and Learning, Session Recording, Carolyn Speer and Maria Sclafani. Instructors and students alike often belive things
about teaching and learning that are not supported by research and evidence. This
session will hit some of the more popular myths about teaching and learning.
Noon-12:50: Panel Hour, Portfolios at Wichita State, Kimberly Engber, Chelsea Redger, and Carolyn
Speer. Did you know that Wichita State is part of a year-long portfolio institute
put on by AAC&U (American Association of Colleges and Universities)? We are! This
panel will be an opportunity for you to hear about eportfolios and how they can work
at both the course and program level.

1:00-1:50: Giving Excellent Online Feedback, Session Recording, Jacie Green and David MacDonald. Online and hybrid classes are here to stay. If you are not yet sure that you provide the kind of feedback your students really need, come to this session on giving excellent online feedback and hear from two WSU instructors who are doing a great job in this area.
2:00-2:50: Encouraging Metacognition in Students, Session Recording, Moriah Beck. Stop and think about thinking in this session about encouraging metacognition
(thinking about thinking!) in your students. What it is, how can you do it, and is
it effective will all be addressed.
3:00-3:50: Different Delivery Methods and Their Codes, Carolyn Speer. WSU has a number of different
kinds of course delivery options including: in-person, hybrid, HyFlex, online synchronous,
and online asynchronous. This session will walk through all the types and their support
and also give you the "key" to translate course codes into their actual meanings.
4:00-4:50: What Can LinkedIn Learning Do For My Classes? Session RecordingReggie Hanson, LinkedIn Learning Representative. Wichita State provides access to
LinkedIn Learning courses to any instructor, staff member, or student who wants it.
And it integrates into Blackboard and to the gradebook! How can you get access to
these high-quality and free (to us) online classes? Come and find out.

of expression initiative.

This session focuses on the distinction between pedagogical approaches to teaching and androagogical approaches. What are these approaches and what's the difference? coming in the near future.

cover the basics and help get you off on the right foot.

"do that"? This is your chance to learn with the lead of our Academic Creative Services
unit.

This session will walk you through several recommendations to improve test integrity,
whether or not you decide to use proctoring.
