Residency Application Procedures

Students who disagree with their residency classification may submit an "Application for Resident Classification for Fee Purposes" form to the WSU Registrar's Office as early as 75 days prior and as late as 30 calendar days after the first day of classes for the semester for which the change is being requested.

Wichita State University's Residency Committee will consider each individual situation as presented and assess it in relation to pertinent Kansas statutes and Board of Regents regulations. The Residency Committee will notify the student in writing once a decision has been made.

International Students

International students who are not citizens of the United States must meet the same criteria as a citizen in order to gain resident classification. However, intent to remain indefinitely in the state of Kansas, and the United States, generally cannot be demonstrated unless the student possesses Permanent Resident status and has been in that status for twelve months prior to the first day of classes. Marriage to a U.S. citizen does not change the criteria an individual must meet.

Forms

Submit one of the forms below to apply for or request a change to your resident status at Wichita State University. Some forms may require a notarized signature.  If the form includes a notary/certification section then notarization is required. For each form that requires a signature, we encourage you to print and sign if possible.  You may then take a picture or scan the signed form and submit.  If you do not have access to a printer we would ask that in lieu of your physical signature that you send the completed/saved form back from your WSU email.  Because you have to authenticate via your WSU email that can act as your signature/approval to move forward with the form.
