Premier Food Services Utlizes Wichita State Engineering Students

Kim Patterson, Vice President of Premier Food Service, and other local companies have
established a relationship with Wichita State University that allows students to gain
experience in the workforce while also providing projects that can benefit the companies
ergonomics, workflow and many other aspects.

Biomedical Engineering major Sadie Winter had a summer internship lined up in Asia
before it was canceled due the pandemic, but not one to dwell on what could have been,
she quickly found a new opportunity through Wichita State’s Center for Entrepreneurship
where she joined a team developing disposable stethoscopes for Wichita-area health
professionals. The project provided her with strong interdisciplinary education as
she was challenged to complete tasks with a focus on business and entrepreneurship,
while still finding those aspects that satisfied the “engineering side of her brain”.

Ryan Floyd majored in exercise science while at Wichita State, not Business, so imagine
his surprise when he found himself as the owner of Wichita's Fit Body Bootcamp franchise.
Ryan's been able to apply what he learned at WSU to his career everyday with the added
challenge of always growing and learning in his professional environment. Having not
had the benefit of taking business courses, Ryan sought out personal business coaches
during the early stages of his endeavor to learn what he needed to be successful!

Business Administration graduate Eddie Sandoval came to Wichita State on a Linwood
Sexton Scholarship, and rounded out his time at WSU by winning $10,000 through the
Shocker New Venture Competition, which he used to officially start his visionary food
company Pinole Blue.
