Direct Hours:
*Counsel your friends and family’s children
*If your school allows it, do telehealth counseling (either online or by telephone) with students. Before you do telehealth with clients watch this short training video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teRe3WwjAk4
*Create guidance lessons and support group curriculum - consider ways in which this can be translated to online activities and present it to children you know. Topics for guidance lessons include: study skills, career exploration, testing prep, college planning, career exploration, resilience, suicide prevention)
* Create a 30-minute interactive Facebook Live guidance lesson. Do a test run of the activity with children you know
* Collaborate with school social worker for home/school visits
* Make phone calls to check in with high needs families
* Join Facebook Groups, read questions and comment when you can, consider ways in which you can build your own support network
Consultation with other school staff
Indirect Hours:
* Search for grant possibilities for guidance programming
* Create a community resource list for families at home
* Reach out to community agencies to see their response to this situation
* Read and discuss with your fellow classmates- The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog by Bruce Perry
* Watch and discuss the movie Paper Tigers
* Make Calm Down Books or Calm Down Bottles
* Explore ASCA website and resources
* Partnering with teachers, administrators, parents and community stakeholders to advocate for all students. (e.g., SIT, SST, resources sharing, joint presentations, committees, school boards,)
* Organizing and maintaining the factors that fall under the foundation and management components of the National ASCA model (e.g., mission and vision, data analysis, action plans, calendars, etc.)

*Conduct teletherapy sessions (via computer or telephone, not from your personal cell phone), if your site allows. Here is a short training on conducting telehealth

*Lead psychoeducation via Facebook live. Examples: guided meditation, coping strategies for dealing with anxiety.
*Create a consultation group with colleagues from your class. Meet virtually to discuss cases (without identifying information), your current mental health, your experience as a counselor in training, etc.
*Remember that class time counts as direct hours per our Handbook.
*Research a topic and create a group curriculum. Examples: grief/loss group, military spouse group, improving interpersonal relationships group.
Indirect Hours:
*Keep a reflective journal about your self-care practices and ways in which you are maintaining your mental wellness
*Explore the ACA website
*Check in with healthcare and mental healthcare workers. (Note: not to provide therapy, but as an informal source of support)
*Read the book “I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me” and discuss with colleagues
*Read the book “What Made Maddy Run” and discuss with colleagues
*Create a list of community resources that clients may benefit from accessing
*Explore the BSRB website including Kansas Statutes and Regulations that pertain to licensed counselors
