Advising & Enrollment Information
This page provides information on advising and registration procedures for all current sophomore or higher undergraduate (BS-degree) School of Computing students.
Note: First-year (i.e., all new students coming straight from high school) receive advising and registration help via the OneStop Student Services office.
Procedures
School of Computing department procedures for advising and registration clearance are outlined as follows:
- Schedule an advising meeting with your faculty advisor (depending on the semester) or your academic advisor by SSC Navigate at least one week in advance.
- Last names beginning with A-L schedule the meeting with their faculty advisor in the fall and M-Z schedule the meeting with their faculty advisor in the spring. (You can meet with your faculty advisor during off-semesters if you want, they are there to help.)
- For all advising meetings, download a copy of your course sequence sheet which will help guide you as you prepare for your appointment:
- In order to pick the correct course sequence sheet, please verify your "catalog term" first. Don't know where to find your catalog term? Check your Degree Works audit or your Academic Profile under the myClasses tab in your myWSU portal.
- Once you have the correct worksheet, fill it out to prepare for your advising appointment. Make a list of questions you would like to discuss with your advisor. Technical electives can be found here for Computer Science and Cybersecurity.
- Plan to arrive a little early.
- Students who are late may need to reschedule.
-
- Faculty Advising Meetings:
- Find your faculty advisor's name and email address by going to your myWSU portal by going to MyClasses, Academic Profile, Student Profile.
- Download a copy of the Faculty Advising Checklist.
- Fill out the top part of the Faculty Advising Checklist, that is, your name, your WSU ID, your catalog term, your major and minor. Don't know where to find your catalog term? Check your Degree Works audit or your Academic Profile under the myClasses tab in your myWSU portal.
- Save the form as Last Name, First Name WSU ID Advising Form Semester Year (e.g. Smith, John W123U456 Advising Form Fall 2024)
- Send a copy of this form to your Faculty Advisor. When it is filled in, after your appointment, have your advisor send it back to you, and send it to soc.ugadvising@wichita.edu. Your pins will then be cleared at the SoC office.
- Academic Advising Meetings: Meet with the SoC Student Academic Success Advisor, Katherine Brewster, on semesters you are not required to meet with your faculty advisor. Click here to email Kat.
