Profile:
Fernando Valenzuela joined the Wichita State Sustainability Group in 2010 as a member of an engineering research team which has the objective of studying and improving methods and procedures in healthcare and manufacturing facilities.
Fernando obtained his bachelor degree in Electrical Engineer in 2006 from Pontificia
Universidad Javeriana in Bogota – Colombia, and his master's degree in Industrial
and Manufacturing engineering from Wichita State University in 2012.
For his master's project he developed an experimental and mathematical model to describe how electric energy is transformed into radiation in X-ray machines and CT scans. His approach managed to estimate how much radiation is absorbed in real time by a patient during an exam and made the results specific to individual patients using a graphical analysis of the scans. This project was awarded by the Boeing Company as the best master project during the Wichita State University Open house 2012 and it was also awarded during the Graduate Research and Scholarly Projects (GRASP) of Wichita State University in 2012.
After his graduation he has worked as a Sustainability Engineer and Manufacturing Test Engineer where he performs studies of manufacturing procedures of metal and composite materials, and manufacturing processes simulation using finite element analysis.
Current Research Projects:
Finite Element Simulation of Titanium Drilling
Finite Element Analysis of Discontinuous Chip Formation in Hard Machining
Metal cutting analysis to improve quality and tool expected lifetime using sapphire.
Tensile Deformation Analysis of Aluminum Alloy Al7075-T6
Lifecycle assessment of nanocomposite materials
