Wind Energy Symposium
On March 26, 2009, the WSU College of Engineering (CoE) held a Wind Energy Symposium that included a workshop on the Life Cycle for the Wind Energy and Manufacturing Communities, by Dr. Michael Overcash; and presentations and posters by CoE faculty and students summarizing their research and findings.
The Symposium was an important part of WSU's efforts to promote the development of a wind industry in Kansas. We believe that the aviation industry here in Wichita can contribute to the wind industry. Our team of 11 faculty, 2 post docs and 13 students are working to reduce the costs of operations, improve the manufacturability and durability of turbine blades, and to integrate sustainable forms of energy into the grid. We are also working to ensure that the wind energy systems are "green".
Our team is also working to establish how we can assist the Kansas Utilities Commission with critical infrastructure for bring wind energy to the market. Constructing that infrastructure would be a valuable contribution for the Kansas economy.
Presentation posters from the Wind Energy Symposium:
- Networked Monitoring and Control of Small Interconnected Wind Energy Systems
- Health Monitoring of Wind Turbines
- Wind Generation Systems - Use of Life Cycle Information
- UV Degradation Prevention on Fiber-Reinforced Composite Blades
- Intelligent Manufacturing of Hybrid Carbon-Glass Fiber Reinforced Composite Wind Turbine Blades
- Operational Excellence in Wind Energy Logistics and Supply Chains
