Enrollment Exceptions for Undergraduate Students
Graduate Courses Applying Towards Undergraduate Degree
Financial Aid eligibility for undergraduate students is based on a student’s enrollment in undergraduate level courses. Exceptions may be made for students who are seeking an undergraduate degree and are taking graduate level coursework to fulfill their undergraduate degree requirements.
- Federal Pell Grant Recipients – Eligibility for Federal Pell Grant is based on undergraduate level coursework.
If the following conditions apply to you, you may be eligible for an increase to your
Pell Grant:
- Be an undergraduate student seeking your 1st bachelor’s degree; and
- Be enrolled in less than 12 hours of undergraduate level coursework; and
- Be enrolled in graduate level coursework being counted towards your undergraduate degree requirements.
Note: If you are an undergraduate enrolled in 12+ credit hours, your Pell Grant will be paid as full-time. You do not need to request an exception.
- Federal Direct Loan Recipients – Federal Direct Loans require students to be enrolled at least half-time in a degree-seeking
program. If the following conditions apply to you, you may be eligible for Direct
loans:
- Be in an undergraduate, degree-seeking program; and
- Be enrolled in less than 6 hours of undergraduate level coursework; and
- Be enrolled in graduate level coursework being counted towards your undergraduate degree requirements.
Note: If you are an undergraduate enrolled in 6+ hours of undergraduate level coursework and are not eligible for Federal Pell Grant, you do not need to request an exception.

- Complete this form with your academic advisor.
- Submit fully completed form to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships for review.
