FAFSA Corrections Needed
The Department of Education was unable to complete the processing of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The reason is usually due to incomplete information, conflicting information, or a name not matching with the Social Security Administration. Until your FAFSA has been corrected, it is considered unofficial, and no federal financial aid can be offered.
Your Next Steps
To view the specific issues with your FAFSA form, refer to your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) at studentaid.gov.
- On the summary, read the important comments for the reason(s) your FAFSA was rejected by the Federal Processor.
- Follow the instructions on the summary for what actions you must take to complete
the FAFSA application process.
If you have any additional questions about correcting your FAFSA after reviewing your FSS, contact our office at 316-978-3430 or schedule an appointment with a financial aid advisor at wichita.edu/finaidappt.
Common Errors and Resolutions
The following list includes common errors, but please note that it is not an exhaustive list, and your particular issue may not necessarily be listed below. Refer to your FSS for your specific reasons and actions needed.
Note: A contributor is anyone who is required to provide information, consent and approval, and a signature on the FAFSA form.
Taxes Paid is Equal to or Greater than the AGI: The amount you reported for taxes paid appears to be incorrect based on the amount
you reported for adjusted gross income (AGI). Review and make any necessary corrections.
Student's SSN Match, but No Name Match: The name you reported on the FAFSA does not match the name in the Social Security Administration's (SSA) records for your Social Security Number (SSN). Correct your SSN, name, and/or date of birth. If your name is correct, you must confirm it by reentering both your first and last names. If you confirm your name, you should also contact the SSA to have them correct it in their records.
Contributor's SSN Match, but No Name Match: The name and/or date of birth your contributor reported on the FAFSA does not match the name in the Social Security Administration's (SSA) records for their Social Security Number (SSN). Have your contributor correct their SSN, name, and/or date of birth. If their name is correct, they must confirm it by reentering both their first and last names. If they confirm their name, they should also contact the SSA to have them correct it in their records.
Income Exceeds Minimum Amount Required to File a Tax Return: You indicated that you or your contributors will not file an income tax return, but the amount reported for income appears to be over the minimum amount required to file a tax return. Review the tax information on the FAFSA and make the necessary corrections.
Missing Asset Information: You or your contributor did not report asset information. Review the questions about assets and make the necessary corrections.
Student Citizenship: Your citizenship status was left blank. Correct your FAFSA and list your current citizenship status.
