IRS Form 8863: Education Credits
Your FAFSA reflects that you or one of your FAFSA contributors (parent or spouse) claimed education credits on your/their taxes.
You/they would have used Form 8863 to figure and claim the education credits, which are based on qualified education expenses paid to an eligible postsecondary educational institution.
There are two education credits. This does not include scholarships or grants you received from a school or private organization.
- The American Opportunity Credit, part of which may be refundable.
- The Lifetime Learning Credit, which is nonrefundable.
Instructions: Provide a copy of your FAFSA contributors' IRS Tax Form 8863 (Edcuation Credits).
