About New Employee Orientation (NEO)
Facilitated by Wichita State University (WSU) Human Resources (HR) Organizational Development, New Employee Orientation (NEO) provides timely information to those new to a benefit-eligible (BE) position, non-benefit eligible (NBE) positions, or Intercollegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) position.
New Employee Orientation provides information about the many opportunities and benefits available to all Wichita State University (WSU) employees as well as the University's history, campus resources, support services, and policies that affect their appointment. During this orientation, employees receive vital information about the University's policies, procedures, rights and responsibilities as an employee of our campus community.
Easy to access for all employees, near or far, our orientation program is provided through the use of online modules. Employees are able to view these modules at their own pace and go back to review the information at any time by going to wichita.edu/NEO.

- NEO for WSU Benefit-Eligible (BE) Employees
- NEO for Intercollegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) Benefit-Eligible Employees
NEO for Non-Benefit Eligible (NBE) Employees
New Employee Orientation (NEO) is provided in an Online Module format as an option to those employed in a new non-benefit eligible (NBE) role at Wichita State University (WSU) to view. The information presented in these NBE NEO Online Modules is identical to the benefit-eligible (BE) NEO Online Modules with the exception of the exclusion of benefit-eligible specific information (example: insurance, retirement) not applicable to (NBE) positions.
What to Expect
As part of the Wichita State Onboarding process, HR Talent Acquisition will contact the new employee and send their new hire paperwork electronically. This allows new employees to complete the majority of their "paperwork" before their first day of work. This communication will also contain the NBE New Employee Requirements Checklist.
Work Day 1:
The Hiring Manager should meet with their new employee on the first day of work to ensure understanding of all responsibilities and expectations as part of the departmental orientation. The Department Checklist for a New ICAA Employee or the Department Checklist for a New ICAA Supervisor is available for Hiring Managers to use as additional guidance in welcoming a new employee to their department.
NEO Online Modules for NBE positions is available to view by going to wichita.edu/NEO and selecting Non-Benefit Eligible (NBE).
Questions regarding NBE NEO requirements/links should be sent to the HR Talent Acquisition Team at employment@wichita.edu.
NEO for WSU Benefit Eligible (BE) Employees
New Employee Orientation (NEO) is provided as a requirement to those employed in a new benefit-eligible (BE) role at Wichita State University (WSU). The information presented in BE NEO is identical to non-benefit eligible (NBE) NEO with the addition of benefit-specific information (example: insurance, retirement) not applicable to those in NBE positions. Benefit-eligible (BE) positions will receive vital information including their benefits eligibility dates, deadlines, contacts, and other requirements during their New Employee Orientation.
New benefit-eligible employees will participate in our hybrid New Employee Orientation (NEO) format. The hybrid NEO includes a virtual live welcome via Teams and a brief overview of the NEO Online Modules and New Employee Requirements checklist. The NEO Teams link will be sent to new employees as part of the HR Talent Acquisition Onboarding process. Typically occurring on the second day of employment/first Tuesday of each pay period, this provides an opportunity for the hiring department to complete a department orientation on the employee’s first day to acclimate them to and set-up their new workspace.
Managers of new BE employees may typically expect to schedule their employee to dedicate their full second day work/NEO time to allow time to complete the majority of New Employee Orientation requirements (Teams welcome, Online Modules, Acknowledgement, and Requirements Checklist).
Following the live virtual NEO welcome, a follow-up reference email containing summary information will be sent from HR.OrganizationalDevelopment@wichita.edu to new employees attending BE NEO. (Managers and HR will be cc'd to these emails for information transparency.)
Please note that NEO Online Module 7 Part 1 about the State Employee Health Plan (SEHP) insurance should be viewed prior to an employee's start date so that they may make benefits selections as soon as they receive their email from SEHP indicating their enrollment portal is open. (This information will be included as part of the Onboarding communication to the employee.) Making these elections as soon as possible will help mitigate the impact of multiple deductions for coverage that is effective Day 1 on an employees first check with benefit deductions.
