Larry Keller
police officer, WSU Police Department, Administration and Finance
For the past 23 years, Larry Keller has been around to keep the streets open, the
traffic amiable and the campus community safe. Keller worked at WSU from July 1986
to October 2009, serving as a police officer and later as a traffic section supervisor.
Although Keller worked primarily with parking and department reservations, he said
the favorite part of his job was interacting with all of the different people.
Keller was also involved in the scheduling of events, security parking, parking issues
affiliated with Senior Day, sporting events and the use of the Rhatigan Student Center
parking lot.
“He was liked by a lot of different people on campus because he was so involved in
different departments,” said Heather Ballard, Keller’s daughter and fellow police
officer. “He is very missed on campus.”
In retirement, Keller plans to enjoy life and ride his motorcycle more. He is a member
of the Patriot Guard American Legion Riders.
Keller also has a fifth wheel camper that he plans to use more regularly at Lake
Afton and the surrounding lakes once his wife, Claudia, who also works at Wichita
State, retires.
