Email FAQ

For Students:

I clicked on the StuEmail link on myWSU, but nothing happened. What did I do wrong?

You may have a popup blocker blocking the new page from opening. On Internet Explorer it will notify you of this by putting a yellow bar on the top of the page. You can click on that bar, and allow popups. Other browsers will have the setting also, but in other locations. If you have trouble finding it, please call the Help Desk at (316) 978-HELP.

I am able to get into myWSU account and Blackboard, but can't access my email account. What should I do?

Try to access your email account through “studentmail.wichita.edu”. If it does not work, please call the Help Desk for assistance at (316) 978-4357.

What is the username when logging in at http://o365.wichita.edu?

It is your myWSU ID@wichita.edu along with your password. For example, if your myWSU ID is x123y456 the username box should read x123y456@wichita.edu.

How do I access WSU Email?

You can access your student E-mail at http://o365.wichita.edu, or by clicking on the StuEmail icon inside myWSU.

What do I do when it says my mailbox is 90% full or more?

Delete email messages stored in one or more of the folders in your mailbox. Some suggestions:

  • Messages with attachments often take up the most space. Start by saving the attachment onto your personal computer's hard drive.
  • Find the largest messages, and delete them first.
  • Check the "Sent" folder for copies of emails that can be deleted.
  • Empty the "deleted items" folder

My friend says an email he sent to me bounced with a message saying 'recipient is over quota'. What does this mean?

Each student is allotted 50GB of disk space to store email. If that allotment is exceeded, email will bounce back to the sender with an appropriate message.

How do I forward my student email to another email address?

Mail forwarding is not available on Office 365 accounts, but you can setup your email account on your cell phone by following these steps:

(Just remember that to set up your account, use your myWSUID@wichita.edu as the sign in address, not your actual e-mail address @shockers.wichita.edu).

Set up Office 365 email in the iOS Mail app:
1. Go to Settings, scroll down to Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and then tap Add Account (this may be different depending on the version of iOS installed).
2. Select Exchange.
3. Enter your myWSUID@wichita.edu in the email field - not your actual @shockers.wichita.edu email address. Enter your myWSU password, and a description of your account. Once your credentials have been entered, tap Next. Again, this could be different depending on the iOS version.
4. Your email account is now ready for use with the iOS Mail app.

Set up email with the built-in Android email app:
Note: Android mail apps may look different across different devices, and the directions given may not exactly match the options you see. Use these steps as a guide, or consult the manufacturer's help for your particular device. You can also choose to use the built-in Gmail app if your email app is not available.
Tap Settings, Accounts, Add account, Email.
1. Type your myWSUID@wichita.edu in email field - not your actual @shockers.wichita.edu email address, type your myWSU password, and tap Next.
2. Select the Exchange option. If Exchange is not available, choose Microsoft Exchange Active Sync, or Corporate.
3. You might receive a message about additional security features. Select OK to continue.
4. Once the device verifies the server settings the Account Options page opens. Accept the defaults, or select the options for how you want to receive and send your mail, then tap Next. (You may need to scroll down to see Next.)
5. On the setup email page you can change the name of your account. When you're finished tap Done.
There are videos available for these and other devices here.

For Faculty/Staff:

If I mistakenly sent an email, can I get it back?

If the mail was sent from one faculty/staff member to another it can be retrieved, provided the other user hasn't opened/deleted it, and it wasn't sent to a mobile device. Go to your sent folder, and find the email you want to retrieve. Double-click to open the email. In the "Actions" section click "other actions". Select "recall this message". The message will be recalled.

I am trying to get into my staff email account through the website http://mail.wichita.edu, but it is not letting me in. What should I do?

Try to login to myWSU to test your password. If your password does not work in myWSU, change your password. If it does work for myWSU make sure you include ad\mywsuID on the domain\username line. For instance, if my ID was X123Y456 the domain\username box would read ad\x123y445.

Microsoft Outlook is not working properly on my Computer. Is there any way to check my emails?

Yes. You can access your email through Microsoft Outlook Access. To open the Outlook Web App go to the following link: http://mail.wichita.edu.
