Join LGN!

The PPMC's Local Government Network (LGN) is a professional development series that offers monthly learning and networking events for city and county government organizations in the region.

Will Your City/County Join the Local Government Network (LGN) for 2025?

When your city/county joins LGN, all employees and elected officials can participate in the LGN programs offered in 2025, except the monthly Managers Roundtable. In 2024, 29 cities and 5 counties in central Kansas benefited from membership. See the list below to check if your organization is a member

Membership in 2025 Includes the Following:

  • Back by popular demand: NextGen EcoDevo: six one-hour live, online sessions exploring the book 13 Ways to Kill Your Community, 2nd Edition by Doug Griffiths. Learn what can be done to get Gen Z to live in your community and get Generation Alpha to love their hometown. (In 2024, this new “bookclub” was wildly successful, drawing a variety of administrators, staff, and a few elected officials.) In 2025, sessions will be offered at times more convenient for elected officials, planning commissioners, and staff. Book not included.
  • *NEW* Public Works-related facility tour and networking lunch in cooperation with the Kansas Chapter of APWA (American Public Works Association)
  • *NEW* Civic Leadership Unplugged: Three one-hour live, online sessions exploring how you can address civic challenges in your community. The book For the Common Good: Redefining Civic Leadership by David D. Chrislip and Ed O’Malley will guide our discussions using Kansas case studies and the four core competencies required to successfully address civic challenges. Similar “bookclub” format as NextGen EcoDevo. Books provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Two webinars (one hour) on topics of interest to city or county management held live and later available streaming on demand
  • Monthly Managers Roundtable (8 online, 4 in-person lunches) - Only for city/county managers and administrators
    city/county managers & administrators
  • Legislative Perspectives (in person)

Membership Bonus:

LGN members will receive discounted rates on (1) attendance at the City/County Management Summit on June 12, 2025 at WSU, and (2) Orientation & Development (including Ethics) for their Elected Officials or boards (Planning Commission, Library Board, Park Board, etc.). We happily provide board development in person at your regularly scheduled meetings (subject to scheduling/availability) and customize the curriculum to meet local and unique needs. Email Kathy to discuss options.
