There are many exciting ways to get involved at Wichita State. Whether you want to be in a student organization, develop leadership skills, participate in community service, plan campus events or join a Greek organization, there is something for you.

Cadman Art Gallery: The Wilson K. Cadman Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center and serves as an exhibition space to artists. The gallery showcases annual competitions, rotating student exhibits and alternating features in the outer display.

Civic Engagement: Student Involvement recognizes the power of a helping hand and strives to coordinate the needs of the community with Wichita State University students who are interested in volunteering. We seek to engage students in opportunities within the community that will support their efforts to be productive citizens.

Community Service Board: A student council dedicated to “Passionate Service Together”. This organization meets weekly and coordinates many events for with the goal of giving back to Wichita and beyond. Wu’s BIG Event: Major community service event with multiple service sites in the Wichita community in which students, faculty, staff and alumni can give back to Wichita State University’s home community.

Fraternity & Sorority Life: The Fraternity and Sorority community at Wichita State University is full of tradition, brotherhood/ sisterhood and pride. From participating in Hippodrome and Shocktoberfest events to playing Intramurals, Greeks know how to show school spirit at WSU. Our members proudly represent at WSU athletic events, hold leadership positions in numerous student organizations and carry out some of the top fundraising events at WSU. Leadership: Student Involvement understands the importance of developing leadership skills throughout your college experience and is intently focused on developing the leadership abilities of all students. Through our tiered leadership programs (Emerging Leaders, Evolving Leaders and Engaging Leaders), we seek to help first year, returning and graduate students become ethical leaders both at WSU and in the community.

Service-Learning: an experiential learning method that integrates community service with instruction and reflection to improve student civic-mindedness and build community capacity.

Alternative Break Trips: Week-long service-learning trips which focus on serving and learning about social justice issues such as a poverty, hunger and homelessness, access to education and more.

Student Activities Council: SAC is one of the largest student-run organizations at Wichita State University and brings a variety of events and programs to campus each year. Some notable SAC events include Hippodrome, Shocktoberfest, Family Carnival, Gamefest, and live entertainment. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion takes pride in creating and maintaining connections with various communities outside of campus and within Wichita State University. The office cosponsors many different events through these connections in order to provide our institution more variety and higher quality in multicultural events and programming. These events range from speakers and documentaries to award ceremonies and cultural festivities, each representing a small piece of the diversity displayed on the WSU campus. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion puts on over 100 events through the year both on campus and in the Wichita community students are given the opportunity to learn more about diversity and the resources available to provide a more rewarding college experience.

The first 1,000 WSU students attending a basketball game will be admitted by presenting their valid Shocker ID, along with a student ticket that can be acquired on student ticket pick-up days. Ticket pickup locations are the University Bookstore, Heskett Center or the Ticket Office at Charles Koch Arena. Individual guest tickets are available for each game; the first guest ticket is $15 and the second guest ticket is $30*

Post-season NCAA events often require paid admission. Specific information will be available before each event. *Prices subject to change. Contact the Ticket Office to confirm.

Athletic Department: Other Activities

Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization: Through annual membership donations, SASO (Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization) provides scholarships for nearly 200 Shocker student-athletes who compete in 15 NCAA Division I sports at Wichita State. SASO benefits include priority seating, parking, hospitality and a tax-deductible contribution that assists academic endeavors.

Student Services: provides programs and services intended to maximize academic potential through enhancement of learning skills, career development and personal counseling.

Shocker Hall of Fame: honors former Shocker athletes and administrators who excelled in their fields.

Summer Camps: various WSU camps provide fun and experience for younger students.

The College of Fine Arts provides a great variety of cultural/entertainment events for WSU students and the Wichita area population. The special series events bring nationally and internationally recognized artists to Wichita and include the following:

Connoisseur Series: five to six events covering all arts disciplines such as classical music, jazz, dance, theater and the arts of non-Western cultures.

Dance Series: performances by nationally recognized performers as well as collaborations of the Wichita State University Dance Ensemble with regional and other university/college dance companies.

Faculty Artist Series: WSU faculty artists in solo recitals as well as performances by WSU's renowned Fairmount String Quartet, Wichita Brass Quintet, Sotto Voce Trio and Lieurance Woodwind Quintet.

Opera and Musical Theatre Series: three to four productions each year of operas and musical theater from the classics to more modern and avant-garde repertoire by one of the university's outstanding programs.

Theatre Mainstage Series: four yearly productions produced and directed by WSU faculty with students in lead and supporting roles.

Rie Bloomfield Organ Series: world-class artists playing one of the world's finest organs in the perfect acoustics of Wiedemann Recital Hall.

Students are also encouraged to participate in fine arts classes and productions even if they are non-fine arts majors. Each semester the College of Fine Arts offers more than 100 fine arts classes that do not have any prerequisites, many of which can be used to satisfy general education requirements. In addition to nationally and internationally known guest artists, the School of Music presents performances throughout the year by the WSU Symphony Orchestra, Symphony and Concert Bands, Jazz Arts I and II, Concert Choir, A Cappella Choir, Madrigal Singers, Chamber Singers and the WSU Opera/Musical Theatre.

Heritage Months: The Office of Diversity & Inclusion promotes and sponsors heritage months throughout the academic year. Heritage months are designed to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our campus and Wichita community. With cultural events, guest speakers and panel discussions, live entertainment and theater performances, film screenings and hot-topic workshops, you'll have fun as you learn about the difference facets of diversity. At Wichita State University you can participate in several months such as LGBT History Month, Black History Month, and Women’s History Month, Asian Pacific Islander Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month and many more.

Library Associates Lecture Series: Professionals in the field of library science in three-four lectures per academic year.

James Schwartz Memorial Lecture Series/Executive In Residence: A prominent entrepreneurial executive visits campus.

Watkins Visiting Professorship: Created in 1974 by a grant from the Watkins foundation. Departments of biological sciences, chemistry, geology and physics invite speakers of renown to give public and academic lectures in their fields during the spring semester.

Hippodrome: Started in 1928, is a week-long event in April celebrating WSU pride and talent. It is the longest running tradition at Wichita State. The week is capped with an all-day show featuring performances from student organizations across campus.

Shocktoberfest is the annual fall spirit month at Wichita State. Held each October, it features student organization competitions, individual participation events and the crowning of WSU's Man and Woman of the Year.

Welcomefest is the biannual welcome back at Wichita State. It is held the first two weeks of the fall and spring semesters. There are a variety of events to welcome new, transfer and returning students.

Memorial '70: An annual ceremony of remembrance is held at 9 a.m. each October 2, and a wreath is placed at Wichita State's Memorial '70. If the date falls on a weekend, the ceremony is held on the closest weekday. The brief ceremony honors WSU football players, administrators and supporters who died in a plane crash Oct. 2, 1970. The plane crashed near Silver Plume, Colorado en route to a game with Utah State University in Logan, Utah. The Memorial '70 sculpture is located on Alumni Drive near 18th and Hillside. A special display case commemorating those lost in the crash is on display on the Charles Koch Arena concourse.

Cadman Art Gallery (RSC 1st floor): Student exhibitions of art, which change every two weeks. Free and open to the public. Closed during summer, on weekends and on holidays. Visit the Cadman Art Gallery website at wichita.edu/RSCGallery

Ulrich Museum of Art (McKnight Art Center East): exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, guided tours, gallery talks by visiting artists and free membership for WSU students. Free admission and open to the public 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; closed Mondays and major holidays. Visit the museum's Web site at www.wichita.edu/ulrich

Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection: features more than 70 sculptures across the WSU campus, one of the largest university campus collections in the country and includes such artists as Andy Goldsworthy, Henry Moore, Luis Jimenez, Louise Nevelson and Robert Indiana. Free maps showing the locations of the sculptures are available at the Ulrich Museum of Art or online at www.wichita.edu/sculpture

Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology (108 Neff Hall): features art and other artifacts from cultures throughout the world. Free and open to the public. 1-5 p.m. Monday — Friday; closed Saturday and Sunday.
