James J Rhatigan Leadership Scholarship

The James J. Rhatigan Leadership Scholarship is SGA's most prestigious award. It was created by the 1995-1996 Student Government Association to provide tuition assistance to eligible Wichita State University students. The Scholarship honors Dr. James J. Rhatigan, Senior Vice President of Wichita State University, for his many years of service as Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, and for being a model of leadership to students throughout his tenure. The scholarship is meant to reward students who have demonstrated consistent leadership, service, and academic merit within the University and surrounding community.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following criteria:

  1. Illustration of leadership skills
  2. Commitment to academic excellence (GPA of 3.0 or above)
  3. Financial need
  4. Service to the University and community

In addition, all applicants must:

  1. Be currently enrolled as a Wichita State University student
  2. Undergraduates must have completed sixty (60) undergraduate credits before the fall semester for which the scholarship is awarded. Graduate students must have completed at least twelve (12) graduate credit hours.
  3. Have at least two additional semesters of course work to complete as a full-time student
  4. Enroll as a full-time student during the period of the award
  5. Maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 throughout the award period    

 

SGA International Student Scholarship

The SGA International Student Scholarship is non-renewable. Prior recipients are not eligible to apply.

All applicants must:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate or graduate international student
  • Have completed at least one semester of study at Wichita State
  • Demonstrate leadership through on-campus involvement
  • Preference is given to students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • May not be a previous recipient as award is limited to one academic year

 Scholarship Application Requirements:

  • Complete and sign application form
  • Attach a typed one page essay about yourself - Must include information describing your leaders and service to Wichita State University
  • Attach a copy of current resume
  • Attach a copy of current transcript, including fall 2019 grades - Can be your unofficial transcript

 

SGA Endowed Scholarship

All applicants must:

  • Be a full or part-time undergraduate student at Wichita State University having attended WSU for a minimum of one (1) semester previous to applying for the scholarship
  • Demonstrate on-campus and community involvement
  • Preference is given to students with financial need
  • May be renewed but the student must re-apply each year and maintain satisfactory academic progress

 Scholarship Application Requirements:

  • Complete and sign application form
  • Attach a typed one page essay about yourself - Must include information describing your on-campus and community involvement
  • Attach a copy of current resume
  • Attach a copy of current transcript, including fall 2019 grades - Can be your unofficial transcript

 

SGA Summer Endowed Scholarship

 All applicants must:

  • Be a full or part-time undergraduate student at Wichita State University during summer
  • Applicants must have completed twelve (12) hours at WSU in one (1) of two (2) semesters prior to the summer scholarship award session
  • Demonstrate on-campus and community involvement
  • Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need from their FAFSA and a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • May be renewed but the student must re-apply each year and maintain satisfactory academic progress

 Scholarship Application Requirements:

  • Attach a typed one page essay about yourself - Must include information describing your on-campus and community involvement
  • Attach a copy of current resume
  • Attach a copy of current transcript, including fall 2019 grades - Can be your unofficial transcript

 

SGA & SLB Dreamers Scholarship

The Dreamer Scholarship is provided through the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Rho Beta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta (SLB) for DACA-affiliated or undocumented students planning to continue their education at WSU. Priority for this scholarship will be given to DACA or undocumented students. Awards are based on academic excellence, leadership in on-campus activities/organizations and financial need. The committee will award students scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500. After applications are reviewed, finalists will be contacted for an in-person interview and awarded accordingly.

Applications are due Friday, July 1st 2020 at 5pm via ShockerSync. 

All applicants must:

  • Be an incoming or current WSU student
  • Be a full-time student at WSU
  • Have a minimum of 2.5 GPA at WSU (or 3.0 incoming high-school graduates).
International Student Hardship Fund

This fund is intended only as a short-term financial solution for qualifying international students experiencing extreme financial difficulties. Funding for this program is provided by the Student Government Association (SGA) and is administered through the Office of Financial Aid, Jardine Hall 203.  Students may only receive this grant ONCE in their academic career and the award cannot exceed $1,000. Only students in a degree-seeking program are eligible; those in Intensive English, non-degree programs need not apply.

These funds cannot be used as the down payment required to establish a payment plan with Financial Operations for past due balances.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Write a statement, in 500 words or less, that explains your financial hardship including the amount you are requesting and where those funds will be applied.
  2. Attach any supporting documentation.
  3. Prepare a detailed report of your income and expenses during the past six (6) months AND a detailed estimate of income and expenses for the upcoming six (6) months. Please keep this to one page in length.
  4. Attach a copy of the Certification of Financial Support for International Undergraduates or Graduates submitted to either International Education or the Graduate School to receive the 1-20.
  5. Return all documents to the Office of the Student Government Association, RSC 219, for committee review.
SGA McKinney-Vento Scholarship

This scholarship was designed to benefit those striving towards a degree with the classification of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act. This scholarship is intended to help fill the gap of financial need for this demographic of students.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Please check to see if you meet the following criteria

  • Be a full or part-time undergraduate student at Wichita State University having completed a minimum of 6 credit hours at WSU previous to applying for the scholarship

  • Preference is given to students with financial need unmet by another gift aid

  • May be renewed but the student must re-apply each year and maintain satisfactory academic progress

  • Attach a typed one-page essay about your personal story and how this scholarship could impact your progress toward degree completion

  • Attach a copy of current resume.

  • Allow SGA to check grades and total credit hours
