Wichita State University - Theatre Program Guest Artist: ERIC COBLE


The WSU Theatre Program was honored to have Emmy nominated playwright Eric Coble in residence and stage his original play "The Dead Guy" in February, 2015.

During Coble’s visit the School of Performing Arts hosted two special events: a “Meet the Playwright” reception was held immediately following the opening-night performance, and a Writing Workshop led by Coble was held on Saturday and open to all WSU students and the community.

Coble’s body of work includes a production on Broadway, “The Velocity of Autumn,” which premiered at the Booth Theatre in 2014, starring Estelle Parsons and Stephen Spinella and directed by Molly Smith. Coble has also written “Bright Ideas,” “My Barking Dog,” “A Girl’s Guide to Coffee,” “The Baker Street Irregulars” and “The Giver,” which have been staged off-Broadway in all 50 states and internationally.
Coble’s works have been produced in numerous prestigious venues, including at Manhattan Class Company, The Kennedy Center, Playwrights Horizons, Actors Theatre of Louisville Humana Festival, Denver Center Theatre Company, Arena Stage, New York and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, Alliance Theatre, Cleveland Play House, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, South Coast Repertory, Asolo Repertory, Indiana Repertory, Coterie Theatre, Great Lakes Theater Festival, Stages Repertory, Geva Theatre and The Contemporary American Theatre Festival.
His accolades include the AATE Distinguished Play Award for Best Adaptation, an Emmy nomination, the Chorpenning Playwriting Award for Body of Work, the AT&T Onstage Award, National Theatre Conference Playwriting Award, an NEA Playwright in Residence Grant, a TCG Extended Collaboration Grant, the Cleveland Arts Prize, two Cuyahoga Arts and Culture Fellowships and four Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Grants.
