Application Guide Checklist
To be eligible for admission into the Medical Laboratory Sciences professional program,
the applicant must be accepted by Wichita State University (WSU) and have completed
or be in the process of completing all general education and pre-professional requirements
(all pre-professional courses must be completed with a grade of 2.0 (C) or better
and within the last 10 years). An overall GPA of 2.5 or above and a WSU GPA of 2.0
or higher are required for admission to the program.
Review the criteria for admissions in the Medical Laboratory Sciences professional program. Application for admission into WSU should name Medical Laboratory Sciences as the field of study.
Please apply in the semester in which you will complete general education and pre-professional prerequisites. Admission to the professional program is determined by the Admissions Committee of the Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Please complete the application by:
- March 15 for fall admission
- October 15 for spring admission

Note: Be prepared to write an explanation why you want to become a medical laboratory professional
_____ Three references*: two from individuals who know your science abilities (science professors or employers in clinical or science-based services), and a professional reference. Your professional reference should be someone who is able to speak about your work habits or professional behavior such as a work supervisor, coach, pastor, physician, etc. (not personal friend, family, or coworker). It is the responsibility of the applicant to request and ensure that three references are submitted as part of the application. Please request that references use the online reference form.

Application material will be reviewed by the Admission Committee after the application submission deadline. Once eligible applicants are determined there will be an interview conducted and a basic skills assessment performed. The skills assessment will be based on the technical standards for admission into the MLS program as stated in the MLS student handbook (available online).
Notification for new spring admits will be the first week of December and for new fall admits will be the first week of May.
Upon acceptance, you will receive a Letter of Acceptance, requesting a (Non-Refundable) $150 Program Acceptance deposit to reserve your place in the program; a form to be completed stating that you accept the offer; directions for the background check; and form for submission of health information. The deposit will be used toward required program tuition for the first professional semester. Acceptance of the offer must be made within two weeks of the offer in order to reserve your place in the program.
In accordance with the directives of the Americans with Disabilities Act, students must inform the department within two weeks of any reasonable accommodations necessary to ensure that special needs necessary for learning are met.
