WICHITA, Kan. – Former Shocker standout Tannya Roumimper of Bandung, Indonesia topped the field littered with Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) stars at the H.H. Emir Cup at the Qatar Bowling Centre in Doha, Qatar last week on February 27. She became the second woman to claim the H.H. Emir Cup title and the third woman to win a World Bowling Tour (WBT) open tournament.

According to www.bowlingdigital.com, Roumimper fired seven consecutive strikes to begin her first game of the final two-game match, totaling 279 scratch and 287 handicap. Her opponent, Al-Dossari of Qatar, only scored 184 which left him 103 pins behind Roumimper. Dossari topped Roumimper in the second game, but it was not enough to defeat Roumimper. The final score, 516-430, left the title and $25,000 in Roumimper’s hands.

“Going into the tournament, I didn't expect anything,” Roumimper said. “I just wanted to have a great experience, play the lanes and learn from the pros. The title was icing on the cake.”

In the semi-final match, Roumimper faced Naif Oqab of United Arab Emirates. Only one pin separated the two bowlers after the first game as Roumimper bowled 223 to Oqab’s 224. In the second, game the former Shocker doubled in the tenth frame to clinch victory over Oqab with 437-428.

“I have been struggling with my game the last few months,” Roumimper said. “I just tried to get my momentum back and fix my timing.”

Roumimper did exactly that. After qualifying in 19th position, she found her swing firing a 289 game in the top 16 portion of the event. She bowled two of the highest games in the duration of the event.

In the H.H. Emir Cup, three different squads bowled two blocks of six games. As a non-native to Qatar, there were two ways to qualify for the next round. Players could either bowl a score high enough to make the top 24 or bowl a one game desperado squad after all qualifying games were completed, with top four scores qualifying.

Depending on qualifying position, players were seeded into steps, or rounds. In each round, they bowled five more games in hopes to continue bowling.

The World Bowling Tour (WBT) continues in Bahrain as one of the 19 WBT stops.

According to www.bowlingdigital.com, the top 3 men and 3 women in the WBT points list are invited to compete in the 2015 World Bowling Tour Finals in 2016.
