Ride the wave: Fresh off a win and a runner up finish, the Lady Shox and Shocker men head to the Sandhills Classic in Lincoln, Neb.

Location: Sun Valley Lanes will host the men while the ladies compete at Parkway Lanes. Both centers are in Lincoln, Neb.

Schedule: On Saturday, everyone bowls 6 traditional team games with the men beginning at 12:00 p.m. and the women at 12:30 p.m. Everyone returns Sunday for sixteen baker games beginning at 9:00 a.m. for the men and 9:15 a.m. for the women. The top eight varsity men’s teams, eight varsity women’s teams, four junior varsity men’s teams and four junior varsity women’s teams will bowl in a bracket match play. Rounds one and two will be best two of three with the finals being best three of five. The men will begin match play at 1:00 p.m. while the women will begin at 1:15 p.m.

How to keep up: Follow the Shockers scores on their Facebook (/shockerbowling) and Twitter (@shockerbowling) for periodic score updates when they are available!

Team Rosters: The Shox will have three men’s teams and two women’s teams. Varsity Women: Sydney Brummett, Ashlyn Herzberg, Hollyann Johansen, Sierra Kanemoto, Dasha Kovalova, Kristie López & Laura Plazas. #WATCHUS: There will be a $5 admission charge into the center. The admission fee covers both centers both days.

Defending Champions: During the Sandhills Classic last year, the women’s teams swept the trophies, winning both the varsity and junior varsity divisions. The junior varsity men also won the tournament while the varsity men finished third.

Man Down: The Shocker men will travel without junior Justin Zwaschka this weekend. Zwaschka had surgery earlier this week to repair a damaged meniscus on his right knee. Surgery was successful and he will be back to action within the month.

Shocker Speak: Senior Dasha Kovalova & Junior Packy Hanrahan
Are there any expectations since there is a tournament under your belt?

  • DK: Yes. Our expectation is to have more fun and enjoy the company of our teammates. The outcomes will happen on their own if we do that.
  • PH: No. We try to take everything as it is. We are always looking to improve though, so I guess that is the expectation.

With such a short time between tournaments, how do you manage school and travel?

  • DK: When I know we have back to back tournaments, I try to get ahead on my homework. Then I use my free time to study and get more done, instead of messing around. Free time doesn't really exist when you are a student-athlete.
  • PH: I try to stay on top of my homework the whole time. It is a must to stay in communication with your professors. They are willing to work with you as long as you are up front with them.
