Begins: Wichita State opens their season up this weekend at the MidStates Championships. This is the longest running tournament in college bowling.
Location: Northrock Lanes (who will host the 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships) will
host the men while the women compete at The Alley; both centers are in Wichita, Kan.
Schedule: Competition begins Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for the men and 1:00 p.m. for the ladies.
All teams will bowl 6 games with no break. Sunday is an early start as the men start
at 7:45 a.m. and the women at 7:30 a.m. All teams will bowl three additional team
games before a lunch break. After lunch, teams will bowl 16 baker games. The men will
start baker play at 11:45 a.m. and the women at 11:30 a.m. Champions will be crowned
based on total pinfall.
How to keep up: Scores will be posted on the Mid-States Intercollegiate Bowling Tournament on Facebook
as well as on twitter @midstatesbowl. Follow the Shockers scores on their Facebook
(/shockerbowling) and Twitter (@shockerbowling).
Team Rosters: The Shox will have three men’s teams and two women’s teams. Competing in the varsity
men’s division is WSU Gold (AJ Chapman, Tyler Cruz, Mitch Hupé, Wesley Low, Zach Rhoades
& Justin Zwaschka). WSU Black (Brandon Biondo, Stephen Cowland, Packy Hanrahan, Enzo
Hernandez, Thomas Peters & Jack Stewart) and WSU Yellow (Jonathan Bowman, Jason Ciszewski,
Shawn Curtis, Lucas Pejakovich & Colton Ruscetti) will compete in the junior varsity
division. In the women’s division, WSU Gold (Sydney Brummett, Estefania Cobo, Hollyann
Johansen, Sierra Kanemoto, Dasha Kovalova, Kristie López & Laura Plazas) will represent
the Shox in the varsity division while WSU Black (Ashlyn Herzberg, Rachel Moe, Kayla
Ovesny, Shelby Snyder, Caitlin Tam & Brooke Woodard) competes in the junior varsity
division.
Support the Shox: This is our annual, regular season home competition. It is open to the public. Admission
is $5 and that covers both centers for both days.
Defending Champions: The women are the MidStates defending champions while the men are looking to bring
the traveling trophy back to Wichita as they finished second last year.
Shocker Speak: “I’m really excited for this weekend! I’ve been on teams before but this team is
so much different so I am really excited to work together and experience a different
kind of team play,” said freshman Estefania Cobo (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico). Senior
Zach Rhoades said the men aren't thinking about being the defending national champions.
“Last year is over; we get to start the process all over with a new team and we couldn't
be more excited. It’s been a long summer so I am anxious to get back out on the lanes
with my team.”
