First Tier One: National Team Match Games marks the first Tier One event for the Shockers this season.

Location: Fairview Heights hosts the National Team Match Games at St. Clair Bowl. Both men and women will be in the same center.

Match Games History: Both Shocker teams swept National Team Match Games last year and look to do so again. The ladies have won this event every year since 2011, while the men were third in 2011, second in 2012 and champions in 2013 and 2014.

Schedule: For the first time in quite a few years, the Shockers are not traveling on Thanksgiving Day! National Team Match Games begins on Saturday, November 28th at 9:30 a.m. with six traditional team games. Everyone returns Sunday for five, four-game Baker sets at 9:15 a.m.

Barnhart Format: This tournament features the unique Barnhart format, where every game is match play. Every game (or four-game Baker set) is match play, bowling against the team on your pair and the two teams on the adjacent pair. For each team beaten, the winning team receives 50 bonus points. The tournament champion is determined based on total pinfall with bonus pins.

How to keep up: Follow the Shockers scores on their Facebook (/shockerbowling) and Twitter (@shockerbowling) for periodic score updates when they are available!

Travelers: Sydney Brummett, Ashlyn Herzberg, Hollyann Johansen, Sierra Kanemoto, Dasha Kovalova, Kristie López and Laura Plazas will compete for the Lady Shox. López and Plazas returned last weekend from the World Cup and Colombia’s National Games. Brandon Biondo, AJ Chapman, Stephen Cowland, Tyler Cruz, Mitch Hupé, Wesley Low, Thomas Peters and Justin Zwaschka will make the trek to Fairview Heights for the men.

Central American Youth Championships: As the team heads to Illinois, freshman Fania Cobo makes her way to Bogotá, Colombia to represent Puerto Rico in the Central American Youth Championship.

Shocker Thanksgiving: While many of our players are now able to go home for Thanksgiving, they do not go without a nice meal. Gary and Carol Young, parents of former player Geoffrey Young, graciously open their house to our program on Wednesday before Thanksgiving for a wonderful meal. It is complete with a turkey quiz and an egg toss!!

Shocker Speak: Seniors Dasha Kovalova and Stephen Cowland
Do you go into this tournament with any different mindset since it is a Tier One?
DK: No we don't. The process is always the same. “Tier One” doesn't change the way we perceive the process; it’s always all about having fun and playing lanes.
SC: It’s really just another tournament. The preparation and process don't really change.
What’s your favorite part about Shocker Thanksgiving?
DK: Food!! Carol makes an amazing meal. We are thankful to have her and Gary in our Shocker family.
SC: The egg toss, as long as the egg doesn't break in my hands. I’ve never won, but I’ve enjoyed making the egg splatter all over someone else.
