Spotlight on TRIO Achievers

Shylo Bell - completed her high school diploma in Dec 2019 from Orion and she will walk in May 2020. EOC helped her complete her WSU Tech's application and 2019-2020 FAFSA. Shilo is going for a Technical Certificate in Surgical Technology. She also filled out an application for the Wichita Promise Scholarship.

Janet Watts - enrolled in WSU Tech's Practical Nursing Program. Janet was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

Q. What can my Pell Grant be used for?

A. In addition to using federal aid to pay for the usual expenses such as housing, transportation, books, tuition, and fees. You can use it to help pay for dependent care, the purchase of a personal computer, costs related to a disability, and more. Phone EOC for more information at 978-7800.

Orion Education and Training offers several options to complete a high school diploma through online coursework and self-paced learning. Orion director, Joani Purdy and her friendly staff has helped numerous high school age and adult students earn their high school diploma. EOC has partnered with Orion for over 10 years. Our partnership with Orion is one we treasure.

Adult learners are adults who return to school to improve their lives. All kinds of adults return to school: people who work, homemakers, single parents, and retirees. Education helps adults grow professionally, personally and socially. Many education programs are designed for adults. Let EOC help you connect to and apply to a school or college.

Come let EOC staff help you build your future with O*NET Online. It is our program's primary resource for career exploration. Here's what makes it such a valuable tool: O*NET Online has detailed descriptions of the world of work that makes it easy for use by job seekers and dreamers. Adult Students Must Learn to Deal with StressStress

Taking a 5-minute break to alleviate stress is wise. Excellent tips for coping with stress, include:

  • Take a quick, brisk walk.
  • Do deep breathing exercises or close your eyes and meditate. 
  • Talk with a friend. 
  • Do an activity you enjoy. 

Finish Your Degree

Whether you have been to college, have some college credits from many years ago, or simply need to retool your education for a career change, there is much to be gained from going back to school.

EOC assists with school and college applications, the financial aid process, and more. Appointments suggested.


Gain Leadership Skills: Become an EOC Ambassador

EOC Ambassador_Leadership

Ambassadors are program participants who have attained some measure of success on their education action plan. Leadership training is provided and all ambassadors are issued a Polo Shirt and receive a gold seal certificate for volunteer service. Contact EOC to volunteer. Ask for Staysha at 978-7800.

 


EDUCATED: The Book Club

Join Jed Shepherd, EOC Program Specialist for an hour-long session consisting of lively conversation as he shares highlights from the book. Educated details the amazing academic journey of a first-generation student who never imaged herself attending college. Books provided for all persons registered by March 1, 2020.
