A New Year of Research Clubs Starts Out All Wet
New GK-12 graduate student fellows bring new reserch projects to the "Pass Me the Salt" research clubs. Kate Brane is leading an effort to examine the ecology of the wildlife of the Arkansas River that winds through Wichita. High school students and teachers had a great time mucking around in the river to begin a new year of research. The student seined the river with large nets with a fine mesh. They collected insects and other invertebrates with small nets along the banks as well. The students than worked to identify and record what they captured. Several sites along the river were examined. We were joined by GK-12 teacher fellows from North High School, Wichita city ecologists, and an ecology professor from Friends University.
