CSD Outstanding Alumni Award
The CSD Outstanding Alumni Award is given annually to our alumni who have shown outstanding
achievement in the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. Nomination
letters should detail the nominee's qualifications for the award and include their
curriculum vita. Additional letters of support are optional, but appreciated. Submit
nominations to csd@wichita.edu by October 1.

2014: Michael Morgan, PhD
Dr. Michael Morgan (PhD from WSU, 1992) is Dean of Education, Health, and Human Services at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Plattsburgh. A native of Hutchinson, Kansas, he received his B.S. degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and his MA and PhD from Wichita State University in Communicative Disorders and Sciences. Clinical experiences include a community clinic, public schools, an intermediate care facility for persons with developmentally disabilities, and university clinics. Following his Doctorate degree, he accepted an Assistant Professorship at SUNY Plattsburgh, which is located in the northern region of New York State at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains and beside Lake Champlain. He achieved full professor while focusing in the areas of voice disorders and stuttering. He currently teaches graduate courses in these subjects and continues clinical work, including all voice assessments in the SUNY Plattsburgh Voice Lab.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Morgan has served in various leadership positions at SUNY Plattsburgh including Chairperson of the Communication Disorders and Sciences Department, Chairperson of Childhood Education, Associate Dean and now Dean of Education, Health, and Human Services. He oversees programs in Education Leadership, Expeditionary Studies, Communication Disorders and Sciences, Counseling, Fitness and Wellness Leadership, Human Development and Family Relations, Military Studies, Nursing, Nutrition, Social Work, and Teacher Education. He serves on the Board for the SUNY Urban Teacher Education Center, an organization responsible for placing students in New York City for student teaching. At home, he enjoys time with his wife, four children, and Goldendoodle.

The Path of Leadership

This talk will address several key factors of leadership within the contexts of speech-language
pathologists working in environments with other professionals and leaders of clinical/academic
teams.

1. Explain the use of shared values to create an environment that promotes success
for all community members.
2. Describe the importance of viewing issues from multiple perspectives.
3. Discuss key factors of conflict resolution in a team environment.

Rethinking Clinical Approaches to Cultural Competency

- Pull in the Harvard Street entrance, on the south side of WSU from 17th Street.
- At the stop sign (directly in front of AH) you may take either a left or right onto Perimeter Road, to access student parking lots.
- You may park in any student lot (green signage).
- You may enter at the front of the building (stairs) or side (ramp) entrances of AH.
- Event is in Room 200 AH on the main floor (past the elevators) in the north hallway.
