Aviance Battles
Kansas City, KS native Aviance Battles is an independent artist, dancer, collaborator, teacher, and choreographer, who started her dance journey at 6 years old. After graduating from her hometown dance studio, Creative Movements in 2016, she attended Wichita State University with a full-ride scholarship, where she trained in Lester Horton modern and Vaganova Ballet techniques for 4 years, and performed in works choreographed by Darrell Grand Moultrie, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Jammie Walker of Mark Morris Dance Company, Mary Lynn Graves of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Sabrina Vasquez, Cheyla Clawson, Denise Celestine, and Nick Johnson.
Ms. Battles graduated summa cum laude in 2020 with her BFA in Performance Dance with a modern dance emphasis.
During her summers, she also worked closely with Urban Bush Women from NYC and Dallas Black Dance Theatre to further her training.
Aviance joined the Regina Klenjoski Dance Company in 2019 and has since professionally performed in works choreographed by Natasha Adorlee, Kia Smith, Caroline Dahm, Gary Abbott and Tristian Griffin. She is now in her 5th season with the company.
Aviance is also currently living in Wichita as a hip-hop, Jazz, and modern dance teacher, a GYROTONIC®️ instructor, a recruitment specialist for the performing arts program at Wichita State University and performs and creates within the Wichita artist community any chance she gets.
