Julius Thomas III is an NAACP Theatre Award and Helen Hayes Award–nominated actor hailing from Gary, Indiana. Best known for bringing Alexander Hamilton to life in the blockbuster musical Hamilton, Julius has also starred as Motown legend Berry Gordy in the smash hit Motown: The Musical.

On stage, Julius' résumé spans four Broadway productions, six national tours, and a wide array of acclaimed regional performances. Beyond the theater, he is one half of the internationally celebrated duo The Kings of Soul & Swing, and his screen credits include Law & Order, Modern Family, Sesame Street, Odd Mom Out, A Capitol Fourth, and the indie pilot Good Guy With a Pun.

As a sought-after teaching artist, Julius has shared his expertise through master classes, lectures, and private coaching at Wichita State, Indiana University, Cal State Fullerton, SMU, and more. A passionate champion of the arts, he is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of performers and passing on the craft that has shaped his own extraordinary career.

He is a proud Wichita State University graduate. 


In March 2026, Julius returned to Wichita State for a One-Night Only with Julius Thomas III.
 
This unique performance highlighted a mixture of beloved musical theatre repertoire, contemporary works, and iconic favorites. Audiences were treated to selections from Hamilton, Pippin, Cinderella, Shrek the Musical, The Scottsboro Boys, and more. Current Musical Theatre students joined Julius live on stage for two ensemble numbers.
