Porter Wilkes
Porter Wilkes is a native to Wichita and graduated from Friends University in December 2021 where he earned a Bachelor of Music, double emphasizing in both piano and violin performance. During his college years, Porter has played as concertmaster for both the Friends University Chamber Orchestra and Community Orchestra. In the fall of 2019, Porter won second place in the Friends University Miller Competition where he played Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor.” In the spring of 2025, Porter completed a Master in Music from Wichita State University, specializing in violin performance. During his graduate studies, he played in the Ann Walenta String Quartet, taking first place in the Konrad Wolff-Ilse Bing Chamber Music Competition. Porter has been teaching piano and violin lessons for over a decade. Porter is also the organist at Hillside Christian Church, an accompanist for music theatre and dance classes at Wichita State University, the Wichita Broadway Singers accompanist, and is the music director for the ‘25-‘26 season of the Jo Zakas Musical Theatre Incubator Program at WSU. During his free time, Porter can be found writing music, reading sci-fi/fantasy, training for a marathon, or annoying the cat.
