Lagrange Takes Home World Cup Title in Shocker Fashion
WICHITA, Kan. – After a purely dominating tournament performance with 7 wins and 1
loss in match play, Shocker alum Caroline Lagrange (’03 – ’06) of team Canada captured
the Qubica AMF World Cup title in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia one week ago.
The World Cup tournament format consisted of 24 qualifying games, a top 24 cut where
players bowled 8 more games, a cut to top 8 where players bowled round robin match
play, and a top 3 cut with best 2 out of 3 matches.
Lagrange won in dramatic fashion when her opponent left a crushing 7 pin in the tenth
frame, marking Lagrange’s second World Cup victory. Her first victory came in 2009
when she defeated England’s Zara Giles.
Lagrange managed to roll one of the 3 300 games in the women’s qualifying portion
of the event.
“It’s tremendous to see our alumni performing well after they leave the program,”
Head Coach Gordon Vadakin said.
Shocker alum and Team USA member John Szczerbinski finished 4th on the men’s side,
just missing the stepladder portion of the event. In the 5th round of competition,
Szczerbinski fired 278, 279, 258, 216, 219, 247, 255 and 242, for a 1994 (249.25 average)
series, the highest set between all competitors. His set sent him into 5th place.
“We take great pride in preparing our student-athletes for the future,” Vadakin said.
“It’s humbling to see our work pay off.”
Each year, the Qubica AMF World Cup is hosted in different countries all over the
globe.
