WICHITA, Kan. – Ever since the ISBPA/Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic became a Tier I event four years ago, the women’s champion has remained the same each year. The Wichita State ladies kept that streak alive as they rallied on Sunday morning to take home the title for the fourth consecutive year.

After day one of five traditional team games, the ladies found themselves in third place. During the first ten Baker games on Sunday morning, the Lady Shocks didn't get much going and were still in third. After a quick meeting with head women’s coach Mark Lewis, things turned around.

“The ladies had two games over 200 in the first ten games on Sunday. After we talked about fighting for every pin and beating that lane condition, the women had two games under 200. It was a pretty impressive turn around. Now we need to find that feeling and attitude at the beginning of every block, instead of in the middle,” coach Lewis said.

When the scores were all in, it was the Wichita State women who were back on top again by over 100 pins.

Individually, the women were led by senior Kristie López (Ponce, Puerto Rico) and Sydney Brummett, a junior from Fort Wayne, Ind. The duo finished sixth and seventh, averaging 205 and 204 over five games, respectively.

It was a struggle for most of the weekend for the Shocker men, who ended in twelfth place. They were led by sophomore Wesley Low with a 200 average over five games.

The Shocks get a week off before they finish their regular season with back to back tournament, the McKendree Baker Challenge and the Hoosier Classic.
