Lawrence Bound: Eleven ladies, eleven men and two coaches are headed to Lawrence, Kan. tomorrow to
compete in the 2016 Jayhawk Classic at Royal Crest Lanes.
Hungry for a Win: This year marks the fifth time the Shockers have bowled the Jayhawk Classic since
it was brought back. Both teams finished third last year. The ladies have won the
event twice and the men have won once. Shockers are still hungry for that first win
of the season.
Schedule: Royal Crest Lanes plays host for both the men and the women this weekend. Competition
starts with six, traditional team games Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning
consists of 16 Baker games at 10:15 a.m. The field is then cut to the top eight varsity
teams in each division and the top four JV teams in each division for a best-of-three,
single elimination, Baker bracket. The championship match will consist of a best-of-five
match.
Keeping Up With the Shocks: Follow the Shockers scores on their Facebook (/shockerbowling) and Twitter (@shockerbowling)
for periodic score updates when they are available!
Shocks heading to Jayhawk Land: Jonathan Bowman, Joe Grondin, Ryan Kendall, Alex Lankford and Alex Sorge will represent
the JV men at the Jayhawk Classic. Victoria Askin, Natalie Dutton, Cassie Edgar, Taylor
Schoeni and Shelby Snyder make up the women’s JV team. Representing the men’s varsity
team will be Brandon Biondo, Mitch Hupé, Jerod Hromek, Thomas Peters, Doug Wagner
and Justin Zwaschka. Traveling for the women’s varsity team is Sydney Brummett, Ashlyn
Herzberg, Hollyann Johansen, Kristie López, Laura Plazas and Brooke Woodard.
Success in Colombia: Senior Laura Plazas returned from Cali, Colombia last weekend. While competing in
the South American Games, she won the bronze medal in doubles, the gold medal in team
(with fellow Shocker Rocio Restrepo) and the silver medal in masters.
Three Week Marathon: With the Five Seasons Classic last weekend, the Jayhawk Classic this weekend and
the Leatherneck Classic next weekend, the Shocks are pushing through!
Shocker Speak: Developmental Team members Taylor Schoeni & Josh Roca
Has the developmental team experience been what you expected it to be?
- TS: It’s so much more than I expected! It’s been a blast bonding with my teammates and learning how to play team. The team play between the developmental team and selected team at tournaments is really great too. The cheers make tournaments all the better!
- JR: I expected the tournaments, the practices, the ed sessions and all of that stuff. I was here last semester so I watched some of it. I didn't expect this group of guys to get along so well. We are an odd group but we have really come together and had a lot of fun!
What are your expectations for this weekend, as this is the last tournament of the year for the developmental teams?
- TS: I’m excited to be able to travel again with my teammates and have a great finish!
- JR: I’m excited to see how the weekend goes. We've learned so much over the last two tournaments so I am anxious to see how we use that knowledge.
